Stay home and cook it yourself--it'll be faster. My mother-in-law, who is senior and has difficulty walking, wanted to go to Miss Mamie's this Saturday. We also had a child and an infant in our group.

We arrived exactly at noon. The door was locked. We knocked, and the woman at the counter looked up at us, then back down. We knocked again. She looked up and made a "ten minutes" sign with her hands. At 12:10, we knocked but we could see no one, so we called. We explained we were outside in the heat with a senior citizen and an infant. We were told it would be another five minutes.

At 12:15 we were allowed to come in and sit. It was just our table of 4, plus another table of 2 nearby. The woman who seated us promptly disappeared into the back.

At 12:30 we were given menus. We ordered immediately, since we'd been reading the paper copies for the past half hour.

At 12:45, we were given cornbread. It was good, I think--since we weren't given side plates, and it was very warm and crumbly, we tried to balance it in our hands to eat and it fell apart all over the table. Since the table was pretty sticky (as was the high chair and the regular chairs), we weren't going to pick the crumbs off the table to eat.

At 1:00, I left since the food was nowhere near ready, and the baby needed a nap at this point.

Many members of my family work in food and beverage. There is NO EXCUSE for being unable to serve food for over an hour after a restaurant's listed opening time. I could have easily cooked the same meal in an hour myself. Most restaurants will bring over extra bread, or at least apologize, after fifteen or twenty minutes. Your staff acted like OVER AN HOUR WAIT was our fault for showing up so "early" when they weren't "ready."

According to my family, the food, when it came, was adequate. However, they said it wasn't worth the price, let alone the unbelievable wait. We recommend Amy Ruth's or Melba's instead.

Great, Affordable Caterer. I worked with the team at Spoonbread on a bridal shower and from the start they were great to work with. Norma worked with me to customize the menu and get the rentals. We went for a traditional brunch menu with brunch drinks.

The day of, the staff arrived right on time and ready to go. The food was great and there was more than enough to go around, and then some. They were friendly and a pleasure to work with and helped create an elegant atmosphere for the event.

All in all the event was a stunning success!

ABSOLUTELY GREAT FOOD AND SERVICE!!. WAS IN THE MOOD FOR SOME SOUL FOOD AND DECIDED TO COME TO MISS MAMIE'S SPOONBREAD... BOY, WAS I BLOWN AWAY!!! I HAD THE MISS MAMIE'S SAMPLER, WHICH GIVES U A CHANCE TO TASTE A LIL BIT OF EVERYTHING. THE FRIED CHICKEN WAS OUT OF SITE!! THE SHORT RIBS OF BEEF AND THE BBQ RIBS WAS JUST FALLING OFF THE BONE..THE MAC AND CHEESE, WAS SOOOO WELL SEASONED, I TOOK SOME HOME!! THE COLLARD GREENS WAS JUST LIKE MY GRANDMA'S AND THE CANDIED YAMS WAS SWEET, JUST HOW I LIKE THEM... THE SERVICE WAS GREAT, THE STAFF TOOK VERY GOOD CARE OF ME AND MY FAMILY...I LOVE THE DECOR BECAUSE IT MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE YOU ARE IN YOUR MAMA'S KITCHEN.. I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE AND I WILL BE BACK... NO SOUL FOOD RESTAURANT IN NEW YORK COMPARES TO SPOONBREAD!!

Food is just not that good. I went to Spoonbread last nite with mom and grandma. I ordered the barbeque chicken with mac n cheese and collard greens. The chicken was just ok. The rest was made with no love at all!! The mac n chesse was served piping cold and the noodles were too mushy and overall lacked the right seasoning. The collard greens had way too much vinegar in them. My mom and grandma had the meatloaf and neither liked it at all. They said it was way too mushy and who ever heard of meatloaf without green peppers and onions??

Soul food should be prepared with love and care and the food we had last nite just wasn't. I won't be going back to Mamie's Spoonbread anytime soon.

Great Food...If Only.... First,

The greens and fried chicken makes all of the service inconsistencies worthwhile.

Well, so does the fried catfish, macaroni and cheese, and red velvet cake.

Plus, I love the old-timey jelly jars used for drinks.

With all that, if you want to try delicious food, just be prepared in case you hit the restaurant when it's either really busy, or very slow. Those two things sometimes add up to inconsistent service. But again, I think the food is worth it.

The peach cobbler.....????. OK.. let me first say, I partly feel as though I don't even have the basis to really write a review strictly on peach cobbler but I just gotta!

My husband and his brother visited this place (his brother swears by it.. my husband was saying it was just "ok"). He brings home some banana pudding which was good (except for the already "turned" bananas)... and he brings home a serving of peach cobbler.. Now, as soon as I opened up the plastic container I knew something was wrong.. It just didn't look or smell right.. just the overwhelming spicy smell that didn't blend well..

I decided to give it another try and it was so slimy that I had to run to get some milk to get the taste out of my mouth.

Ummm, I'm not from down South, but my Grandma Ruby (who I will always use as a basis for comparison with soul food places) is... and I make MUCH better cobbler than this...

It was inedible.

unbelievable hospitality, good food, great prices. We've never had a bad meal here, love the bbq to the weekend brunch, the fresh squeezed lemonade, and the wonderful hospitality of the waiters and great prices makes it a pleasure to eat here.

Great Real Southern Soul Food!!!. My roomate and i just recently moved to the neighborhood and have been passing by this place many evenings...and finally we made it in and what a joy. The food is spectacular and the prices are very reasonable for the portions you get. You need to give the cornbread a try it is a MUST and dont go without trying the chicken....my roomie and i split all our food it was yummy.

Poor Service, Racial discrimination, "Yankee" Southern food. My husband and I ate at Miss Mamie's twice and both times felt we were racially discriminated against. The first time we one of the only tables in the restaurant, more people came in about 30 minutes after we ordered, and THEY were served food first. We are both from the South and could have made better "Southern" soul food than what they served us. The chicken was dry and the mac and cheese was mediocre. It was overpriced for the quality and quantity of food we were served. Our one time 8oz glass of sweet tea was $3---very overpriced. We will NOT be eating there again!

great food great for kids. The food was fantastic and the service was friendly. The service was kinda slow and it took time for the food to come out because its made to order, but it was worth it. The staff was very friendly and even sweeter to my 2 yr old. Being kid friendly is extremely important to me and they were very understanding and made no fuss about the rantings and ravings of my toddler and he was able to rome around without any complaints. I noticed other families there as well with their young children and the staff was very accomadating. The friend I went with who is from the south approved of the food. Would highly recommend!! I would def go back!
