Editorial Review for The Heights Bar and Grill – by Citysearch Editors
The Scene
Located a stone's throw from Columbia, The Heights is a classic student hangout that offers cheap drinks and loud conversation. In warmer months, large windows usher in a breeze while students cluster around the bar drinking frozen margaritas in a rainbow of flavors like passion fruit. Head up a steep flight of stairs to access the charming, intimate roof deck, which features a retractable rooftop and additional seating.
The Food
The mostly Mexican menu offers a wide array of inexpensive burritos, burgers, salads and sandwiches. Queso fundido is a cheese lover's dream, but snap it up quick, before it becomes cumbersome to scoop. The renowned wings come in mild, wild and--eek!--inhuman, and deserve their delicious reputation. A red chili shrimp burrito manages to taste light, even though it's stuffed with fixin's.

I am an African American. I worked at The Heights and the other restaurants affiliated with The Heights for 5 years. I have also been a customer many times since I stopped working there. I have never, at any point, experienced discrimination from any of the staff or ownership. The Heights and it's affiliated restaurants are neighborhood institutions that are welcoming to people of all ages, races, ethnicities, religions, gender and sexual orientation. They are comfortable, fun places to bring your friends and family for a good meal and drink. I will continue to frequent the Heights for many years to come!
Pros: The Roof, The Margaritas, The Burritos
