there is alcohol inside.. As places to drink near Columbia go... this is definitely a place to drink.

Nothing special, but a good place for a few beers.. Patrons here are usually students who are well behaved (probably intentionally avoiding some of the frattier bars in the area). They have a decent sized bar with a fair selection of drafts, and some booths to sit in. There's also darts and a big TV.

The last couple of times I've been there's almost always a clump of smokers twittering right in front of the door. I guess that's just the way it is these days.

Young place. It is nice to have a low-key place where drinks are really cheap. I like the booths but they are always full and I have rarely sat there. I'm not a fan of the young crowe that takes over the place, but I guess you get that with cheap drinks. Basically, a cool place with little atmosephere, but cheap beer and a dartboard are sometimes all I need.

fun for everyone and a great trivia night. I host a trivia night pub quiz at 1020 every Tuesday night so I am at the 1020 a lot. It's a great bar, with booths so you can sit with your friends and large tables in the front and back of the joint if you are with a large group. The beer is dirt cheap for NYC.

On the weekends it is full of college kids making it crowded and impossible to play darts. There is a also a beaten up old pool table that takes quarters to play. The bartenders are chill and work hard to serve people quickly.

Here is info on the Trivia Night.

Every Tuesday at 8pm

Live hosted trivia game with a fun, relaxed atmosphere. Come in for pub quizzes, prizes, and friendly people! Best of all it's FREE!

Win bar tabs! and Junk Food!!!

Prizes for 1st, 2nd and third place teams. Prizes for funniest team names and funniest wrong answers.

A rare no-frills college bar in rapidly gentrifying Morningside Heights.. The Scene
Frat boys on the prowl aren't the only thing you have to watch out for at this popular Columbia watering hole. With a busy dart board perched precariously near the entrance, just getting through the door requires speed and agility. Safely inside, however, be prepared to experience college bar life at its fullest--beer flows freely as throngs of students crowd around the pool table, listening to blaring alterna-rock and watching sports and sitcoms on the big screen TV, checking one another out all the while.

The Draw
Since the room is packed every night of the week, arrive early if you want to snag a comfy booth or one of three antique dentist chairs. Open up and say "aah," as you enjoy cheap drinks, nice conversation and a lovely view of the awe-inspiring St. John the Divine cathedral across the street.

weird bartender. cool place except for the creepy bald bartender with the serial-killer glasses. Was he hired to scare away customers? Because it's working.

The number one reason to go is.... ... bartender Tim Monaghan. He's been with the place from the beginning and is a very generous man. Rabid Sox fan, but that's okay. Classic rock afficionado, but his taste is very discerning. 1020 isn't exactly a college bar (DEFINITELY not a "frat bar"), but it's near Columbia. It's really more of a neighborhood local. Very accepting and people there genuinely like each other. NO scene BS. That said, it's not exactly a glamorous place. I wouldn't take a date there. As for the music, well, it's eclectic. Entirely up to the discretion of the bartender on duty. Some like classic rock, some hip-hop, some mostly Australian bands. Not enough country, I'd say. That's just the way it is. Oh, and, by the way, the later it is, the more crowded the place. These folks really get their thing going after 11pm. Me? I'm more of an early evening patron...

Don't come to 1020 if.... Don't come to 1020 if you want to pay a lot for drinks or you want to be judged by the patrons and bartenders. If - however - you want to drink a few beers, meet chill people, and go home with some cash in your wallet, then this is the place!

fun if you go to Columbia. or even if you don't....this is one of my favorite bars in the morningside heights area- great bartenders, no attitude at the door or inside. Music is varied but is often alternative stuff (radiohead etc). Inexpensive and good happy hour. The thurs-sat night crowd late night is mainly Columbia kids- but even if you're not a student go with a group of friends and have a good time anyway. Great neighborhood bar, alot of regulars and often is like a cu party, but it's still fun.
