One of the best color and haircuts I've ever had!. Had my first appointment with Frank in January, and I'm hooked. After sitting and talking with me for several minutes about what I did and didn't like about my recent haircolor experiences, he gave me the best color of my life.

I like the haircolor experience so much that I went back a month later for a haircut. I have short hair, and very definite ideas about what I do/don't want. I brought in some photos and we discussed what worked best for my hair type, my face, and my personality. Frank again listened and gave me an expert cut which not only my friends and family have raved about, but which has also garnered compliments from complete strangers (not bad in NYC, where many people don't exchange pleasantries easily!)

I'm so delighted to have this new experience that I am not planning on going back to Arrojo any time soon (they were very nice to me there, but just didn't get what I wanted in either cut or color).

for a wonderful fresh new look.... I walked in to Salon Above thinking that I wanted something different from what I had but feeling overwhelmed by trying to articulate it...all I said to the stylist was give me something cute" and he just went with it...as I was watching my hair transform, I got so excited. With short hair it is hard to think of new things...but when he was done - I had a whole, new, more feminine look. I was not scared, I was delighted. Since the cut, everyone that knows me has given me compliments - saying that I look younger, retro, more sophisticated... Thank you Salon Above for giving me such a wonderful new look on life. :)

Fantastic haircut. A friend recommended Rose from Salon Above to cut my hair and donate it to charity. I was extremely nervous as I've had long hair since I was 2 years old and thought I'd be destroying my looks. I had brought along all the instructions for locks of love but she was already familiar with the process. She talked to me for awhile before cutting away to help me determine what style would be best suited to me and what I was looking for. I showed her a few pictures from magazines and she made sure to fully comprehend what look I wanted. I hate layers and unlike most hairstylists she never pushed once and didnt cut any (my last few haircuts I said no layers and of course walked out with layers that took years to grow out). At first she cut the minimum for the donation, then after I breathed and realized how liberating it was we both agreed to cut even more. All I have to say is I LOVE my new haircut/style. Not only is it incredibly easy (wash & go) but so healthy and full of body - I've gotten nothing but compliments from all my friends, colleagues & family. Everyone wants to now go to Rose to cut their hair off.

OH MY GOD i went for my tipical appointment with george which i adore him and i found out that hes not longer there at salon above ,can anybody told me where he is please ,,,,,,,,,Ps george if by any chance you get to read this which i hope so let me know contact me Marrissa ,i totally missed you ,hope you are well ,need you my hair needs you soon

A salon worth traveling to from anywhere for cuts, color and service.. I have known Frank the owner for at least 8 years and he is the best! His talent for cuts, color and overall style sense is truly exceptional. He is sensitive to people's wishes and has the ability to keep the person and their face in mind as he styles. His staff is skilled in straightening and coloring and Aveda products are excellent The ambience, service and skills of all the staff is amazingly personal. I have never felt so relaxed and taken care of at a salon, and I have been to many in the city. I recommend them without hesitation and encourage others to come to them even if they live in other areas outside of the city.

A RELAXING EXPERIENCE FROM SHAMPOO TO THE STYLE.. I VISITED SALON ABOVE A FEW DAYS AGO JUST FOR A STYLE...AND I HAD A WONDERFUL CONDITIONING TREATMENT AND A VERY GOOD STYLE, IT LASTED FOR A FEW DAYS EVEN WITH THE HUMIDITY. GREAT PLACE ...TALENTED STYLIST...I AM A REGULAR NOW...SO I HIGHLY RECOMMEND SALON ABOVE.

PEACEFUL WONDERFUL PLACE!!!!! AND GREAT STYLIST AND COLORISTS.... going to salon above was a wonderful experience...great service...stylist have a great product knowledge (aveda products)...and my haircut was amazing!!!! they really took the time to understand what i was asking for. if you are looking for a great haircut in a peaceful beautiful location i highly recomend salon above.

Dull color, Outdated cut cut badly. You know when you go to Thanksgiving dinner with a new haircut and color and nobody says a thing, that the most charitable comment must have been no comment. The entire family gathered there had seen me within the last month and there was no way anybody could have missed the shorter length or the darker color. In a worst case scenario they thought I?d actually butchered my hair myself, but I didn?t. I paid $266 to have it butchered. And, to be honest, I knew I?d been butchered so, thank you family, for pretending you noticed nothing hideous about my head.

My new ?layers? look like lots of split ends. The bangs are less flattering than my mid-summer do-it-myself job when I was far away from a city and had no options. They?re a tad too-long but mainly they?re both square (like the old bowl-on-the-head technique) and shaggy (like someone tried to disguise the use of bowl-on-the-head). The rest of the layers on this just-below shoulder-length cut aren?t balanced. I look like a barely reformed member of a heavy-metal band from the eighties. I?m not. The big expense, I guess (they never itemized and I was too shocked to ask) must have been the color. My hair had gotten a little brassy and I just wanted a return to my natural dark blond with a few highlights left in. So highlights and lowlights got brushed on. After two washings the color is pretty close to my own. That?s to say, rather dull. But perhaps I wasn?t clear enough about my vision. When I started to talk to the stylist, she cut me off with ?no, no.? I wanted to something more? Japanese ? do you know what I mean? Anyway, it doesn?t look bad when I wear it up in a ponytail. But that?s exactly where I was hair-wise on Tuesday morning before I?d spent $266. Next time I?ll check out a new salon by getting a cut first. Then, if I?m happy, I might venture in for color.

The staff was pleasant enough. But I?d rather have a snotty stylist if I could also leave with a killer cut.

Inconsistent service quality - take your chances. I have been to Salon Above several times with mixed results. Over the past year, their service level seems to have gone down. I went there for a pedicure a few days ago and the lady who worked on my feet wasnt very skilled, although a nice person. She didnt show me their collection of nail color, and instead brought me 4 to choose from. Even though needed, she didnt cut my toe nails or scrub my heels at all. Instead she just filed my nails and told me my feet were nice. Also, the nail paint application didnt quite make it to the sides of my toe nails. Nice color, but incomplete paint job. Sadly, I will not be returning to this salon. Too bad. It used to be a good place.
