Amy Ruth's Restaurant

Owner

Famous Amy Ruth?s has been feeding locals, tourists and celebrities southern home cooked meals for years now. No trip to New York would be complete without a visit to this famous soul food spot. The restaurant is named after owner Carl S. Redding?s Grandmother Amy Ruth Moore Bass. Carl spent most of his summers as a child at her Alabama home. During those summer months Carl would always find his way to his grandmother?s side helping her prepare home cooked southern meals under her direction. He has since perfected his craft and opened the restaurant in her honor. Each meal is made and served with same love and nurture Carl?s grandmother bestowed upon him. It is with that same love that Carl S. Redding, his mom Inez Bass & Family, and the Amy Ruth staff welcomes each one of our valued patrons to Amy Ruth's Home-Style Southern Cuisine Restaurant!

The buttery-yellow walls, high ceiling with its warm wood-toned panels and sparkling lighting set off African-American artwork around the room. Word-of-mouth buzz keeps Amy Ruth's consistently crowded. On weekends, the after-church crowd is here; during the week, people are in and out from breakfast through dinner. Chicken and waffles, smothered chicken, baked Virginia ham, salmon cakes, chicken livers, fried fish, pancakes--it's all inexpensive, freshly prepared and fabulous. Amy Ruth's is the kind of homey, unpretentious place you'll want to come back to--soon.

I went with my husband and twins and the food is great! Real southern style and plentiful. We had to bring some home! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the Harlem area who wants tasty southern cuisine and a moderate price.
