Friendly Club Chaz neighbor. I have never been to Club Chaz, however I do live across the avenue from it (Convent Ave). Since it opened (sometime within the last three months or so, I believe), I hear the crowd leaving after last call every Friday and/or Saturday.



The club is on a dead end, cul-de-sac surrounded by a parking lot, as well as industrial and abandoned buildings. It appears to be in an isolated bubble away from the dense population of the city-- its own little metropolis. That is an illusion, however, because if you go an avenue to either side, there are lots of occupied apartment buildings, like my own.

Around four am, when the patrons flood the street and head for their cars, some proceed to file out of the parking lot honking and playing music at a reasonable volume. Others stand outside in groups chattering and laughing. I am glad to know that they are enjoying themselves.

Unfortunately for the last three weeks, some of these patrons have intermittently blasted music at a ridiculously loud, booming volume...at four in the morning. It's as if I have my own stereo playing full blast in the next door room...or like I'm at a rock concert right near the speakers...or like I am in a nightclub myself. But I am not at a nightclub. I am in my own bed in my apartment trying to sleep...and being awoken upright to punishing rhythms.

I am imploring to the patrons, owners and managers of Club Chaz to PLEASE not blast the music for the whole neighborhood to hear. Have your fun-- laugh, drink, listen to music at a reasonable volume-- but please do not disturb the rest of us who are trying to sleep, study, watch tv, or do the other things that people do at four in the morning. It is outrageously selfish and inconsiderate to think that sound does not travel outside of the immediate area.
