so easy and great price. My family and I had the good fortune of moving with Upstairs Downstairs recently. 11/15/08

The flat rate price made the whole day less stressful.The guys worked so hard I was tired just looking at them.

Nothing broken, great price, and lots of smiles.

Amazing moving experience. We used Upstairs Downstairs Moving this weekend to move from an Upper East Side walkup (fourth floor) to the East Village. Their rates were average for flat rate movers in nyc, and at the end of the day they ended up being cheaper than most of the hourly ones would have been, since all of the hourly places underestimated how long it would take for the move. Edgar, Robin, and Carmello were extremely courteous, friendly, and efficient - they wrapped everything carefully, carried the heaviest boxes and furniture down the stairs with ease, and were out of our two bedroom walkup in under three hours, despite the 100 degree heat! They also took apart and put back together furniture that didn't fit through doorways and brought and packed wardrobe boxes for us. Nothing was lost or damaged, and they were careful to put everything in the right places in our new apartment. Great moving experience!

Not Recommended. I used Upstairs Downstairs for an out of state move and was upset when they ruined my bureau and damaged other furniture. The movers took zero responsibility for this action, trying to tell me I must have bought the dresser second hand (which I certainly did not) and that it was already damaged. I showed them the damages on the matching bed and the 'foreman' gave me a dark brown marker to color in the scratches. .... not the answer I was looking for. According to their website and paperwork, the customer is covered by minimal insurance which I tried to make a claim on.

I called the owner of the company twice to talk about the damages and sent an email but have yet to receive an answer. I am very disappointed in how I have been treated by Upstairs Downstairs and caution anyone out there to not use this company.

In addition, these folks expect a 15-20% (of the entire move price!) as standard gratuity which is WAY out of line. I polled four other movers for a reasonable rate and they all thought this was outrageous. However, if you tip Upstairs Downstairs less (which you know I did), they express dissatisfaction .... even after they trashed my expensive furniture! While cost was an important factor, please consider the value of your possessions when evaluating a mover. Quite frankly, I wish I had never used Upstairs Downstairs.

By the way, this is the second time I used them. The first time I only moved minimal (aka disposable) furniture. They did trash my wall unit but I discounted that because it was Ikea. I should have remembered this when I used them the second time.

Best Movers EVER!. I've used many users in this city and these are by far the best. I know because I've used them THREE times now. Before then I'd used other moving companies and they always managed to screw stuff up. One moving company actually droppped my tv, another one over charged me. You get the picture. Anyways, the first time I moved with these guys (commercial moving) I figured I'd just gotten lucky. But nope! Second and third time were a charm also. Really amazing and I can't recommend them enough!
