What People Are Saying About Jasmine

The Scene – The Scene – Jasmine is simply appointed in dark wood. In the afternoons and early evenings, it is a bright, cheery restaurant, full of families with kids; then, when evening falls, the lights are lowered and the music raised (slightly), as the room fills with young Upper East Side couples. – – The Food – The restaurant serves an array of standard Thai fare. Jasmine's version of pad thai, rice noodles fried with shrimp, egg, and tofu, achieves a nice balance of sweet and savory, with a good chewy texture. Coconut-milk curries, like a tart green one…
Editor's Tips
- Jasmine To Go:
- If you're planning an evening in, swing by Jasmine's adjoining to-go counter. The little storefront, which has a separate entrance, offers an array of diversions while you wait for your food to be prepared.

questionable thai
by gastrowego at Citysearch
food was greasy!!!!! and flavorless. is this supposed to be thai? the dishes on our table all looked alike and were bland even though the menu descriptions would imply otherwise. only saving grace for this place was the fact that it had heat ( it was a cold day) and the warm wood decor.
Affordable, Tasty, Service is slow
by wisebrain at Citysearch
The noodle portions are big, but the entree portions are small. The price is fairly reasonable, but the service is pretty slow. They forgot my friend's order and didn't comp him.
- Pros: Good Food
- Cons: Bad Service
Rudest staff on the Upper East Side!
by manatee1 at Citysearch
RUDE Horrible staff just as other reviewers said! Last Thursday My family went to eat at Jasmine and the restaurant was completely empty. We have eaten there before when we were in a rush and did not want to walk the 2 extra blocks to LAND restaurant which is 100 times better. We always tip well(20%) at all restaurants which we believe is a good tip.The very young male waiter completely ignored us! I had to get up and refill my own water glasses! When he approached me as I was replacing the water pitcher on the service bar this PUNK ACTUALLY SAID TO ME "I AM IGNORING YOU ON PURPOSE BECAUSE THEY(POINTING AT THE BACK OF THE RESTAURANT WHERE OTHER STAFF WAS STANDING) SAID YOU ARE A BAD TIPPER!" Oh YES HE DID SAY THAT EXACT SENTENCE! So unless you tip MORE THAN 20% you will be COMPLETELY IGNORED ON PURPOSE HERE! Needless to say I was appalled and took our food to go and will never return. 20)% every time and IGNORED ON PURPOSE IN AN EMPTY RESTAURANT BECAUSE THEY THINK 20% IS A BAD TIPPER! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Go 2 blocks farther to LAND! better atmosphere, better food, better service. Never again! Yes, Jasmine is closer to 86 street but NOT WORTH BEING IGNORED AND INSULTED!
- Pros: None at all except close to 86 street
- Cons: Rude staff, Horrible service even when the restaurant is empty!
Nice place to go with friends...for the company not the food
by purpleperson16 at Citysearch
I went with my friends to eat dinner here. The atmosphere was really nice. Not over the top and not sparce. It was dark and would be great for a date. My friend and I ordered the shrimp dumplings. Those were really good except for the sauce was freezing cold. Then my pad thai came and it had absolutly no flavor. I have had better pad thai at chain restaurants. Since I was with friends we wanted to split the bill, but they have a $15 credit card minimus which is really annoying, especially since most items on the menu are under $15.
- Pros: great ambiance, attentive bus boy (water was always full)
- Cons: tasteless and cold food
Great Thai place
by foodlover31 at Citysearch
This is a great place -not only is the food delicious, but the atmosphere and service are equally good. The gai pahd bai ga-prow (chicken w/ bell peppers in a spicy basil sauce) is a favorite -they can adjust how spicy the dish is, and I have found the 'medium hot' to be just right for me (it's probably the equivalent of 2-3 green Thai chili peppers). They also have been prompt when I have ordered take-out -it takes around 10-15min to have it ready.
Having myself dabbled with Thai food cooking, I like their soups and especially appreciated that you can find galangalal pieces in the Tom Yam Goong, the spicy seafood shrimp with mushrooms.
Overall, I think this place is a keeper and worthwhile trying if you have not.
