Editorial Review for Dorrian's Red Hand Restaurant – by Lori Fradkin
The Scene
A hub for students home for break, recent grads and preppy young professionals, this dimly lit tavern gets loud, crowded and rowdy. The two rooms are fitted as a simple tavern--in the front, black-and-white photos and mirrors cover the brick walls, while the back room offers a second bar, leather benches and velvet curtains. Televisions at all angles let sports fans leave their living rooms without missing the big games.
The Draw
The jeans-casual bar functions as both a pick-up spot and a place to gather with longtime friends. Parties and pairs sing along to the familiar lyrics of classic rock standards and blaring middle-school favorites, and sometimes that's easier than straining to hear the person next to you. If music and mingling get a bit overwhelming, lose yourself in a full menu featuring quesadillas, pastas and burgers--or a late-night breakfast of steak and eggs.

Insider Tips
The ExtrasGuests can rent out the room in the back for private parties.
Fun FactThe 2nd Avenue staple was immortalized in the popular contemporary novel "The Nanny Diaries," which characterized it as the go-to bar for frat-boy types looking to get wasted and then get lucky.
Know Before You GoAlthough there are no happy hour drink specials, stop by on Tuesday nights after 10pm to participate in free karaoke.

Have you ever came to in the morning after a night of heavy drinking and realized that you did something you wish you could take back? That's how I feel about this place every time I go there. This place gives the UES a bad reputation. Rude Doormen and shady management. Google it. The crowd truly reminds me of a basement frat party full of Freshmen and Sophomores with brightly colored popped collars. But that also means they have some decent looking girls. The bartenders are OK and do their job for the most part. WIth so many great places to go in this city, I'm ashamed that I have been here more than once. If you fit into this crowd please spend your time here so I won't have to run into you anywhere else.
Pros: Good looking girls
Cons: So many

One night in this establishment helped reinforce every single negative stereotype that exists about the yuppie/preppie devolution of our society. You've already given up on life if you set foot in here a second time. While overly intoxicated under age girls who summer in the hamptons may be mildy entertaining to eye from afar, it's not surprising that this was the spot that served as the meeting place for the preppie murder thing 20 years ago. If I ever received a gift card to this establishment, I would wonder what I did to upset that person.
Pros: Very Drunk Yuppie Girls
Cons: Very Drunk Yuppie Guys
