great service, top notch food. One of, if not my number one, favorite place! The food is top notch, the place is very cool, the service is great, and it just feels right for a special occasion or just stopping in on a Friday night. It is a bit pricey, but for the experience you get, well worth it. I have been here several times and have always been very happy.

MANAGER WHO IS RUDE. Went several times a month, held three private parties upstairs. Came one night without a reservation and received the manager's rath. As I left I heard him commend to the customers about me. I returned to tell him I wouldn't be back and suggest that others do the same.

Manager is out of control and rude. Food was nothing special but it was close to my home.

Great foot and service!. I love this place. My husband to be and I went there for dinner to see if we might want to rent the private room for our wedding rehearsal dinner party. My husband is European and very picky in terms of service and food so I was a bit apprehensive. The dinner and service was so good that my husband decided to book the private room halfway through dinner. The rehearsal dinner went very smoothly. Our 40 guests were also pleased with the party. They complimented us on the food and selection of restaurant.

another happy accident. I'm so surprised to see negative reviews of this place. My ignorant , very non-local party of 7 and I showed up late one night after Thanksgiving and were treated like royalty. The food was phenomenal, the free bread and antipasti were phenomenal, and the entrees were good Seriously, the best thing about it was the service. Our waiter was helpful and kind, and the owner or manager kept coming by to check on us. Maybe we caught them on a good day, but I'd certainly go back. They treated us very well.

AVOID AVOID AVOID. We visited this restaurant without checking Citisearch because it was recommended by a friend. Big mistake. As soon as we were seated, the waiter began pushing for a quick choice. After eating the meal--it was good, not great--we were asked if we wanted dessert. We ordered coffee and cognac. After a couple of sips, the manager? owner? came by the table and tried to push us out. We thought he was kidding as we had only been there 40 minutes. But no, he kept walking by the table making nasty comments about our overstaying. My husband calmly drank his cognac which sent the manager/owner into a rage, at which point he starting shouting at us to get out. At that moment the meal started to come up on me and I begged my husband to leave. We paid the bill and left...after less than an hour. Even if the food were great, I would not recommend visitors to New York go to Girasole as they might, like us, have an evening in a wonderful city ruined.

The worst restaurant experience imaginable. Never before has a waiterinstructed my party to order soon as the restaurant was very booked that evening. Never before: not in a take-out joint and certainly not in a pricy restaurant of this nature. This was said to us, whose reservation was for 6pm. Odd, I thought, but didn't want to point it out to my guests. (All of whom have eaten at Girasole in the past, i.e, are good paying customers). The meal finished and the check just paid, we were told by another waiter that there was a crowd outside and they needed our table. Excuse me????? We''d just dropped just under $200. and we were being given the bums rush. I got home and called the restaurant to register my displeasure. What abuse, what comments were hurled my way by the maitre 'd. Among other things I learned that if you have a 6pm reservation you "should be out" by 7:30pm. If you do not have coffee and dessert in front of you, having finished the meal of course, then you should not sit there. Go to a library if you want to sit around. (Clearly the maitre d' is not familiar with what one does in libraries). The nasty comments went on and I, astounded that he could treat a customer of long standing this way, listened as I simply could'nt believe what I was hearing. Long story short, I can tell you this much: There is not enough money in the world that could pay me to enter that restaurant again. Food is not the issue here, good manners (and good business behavior???) is.

Happy Accident. I walked into this restaurant expecting someplace I'd been before, but my memory was a few blocks off. The manager was more than happy to put us down for a table for an hour later since the place was packed. Considering it was our mistake and should have planned ahead, we thought this was more than accommodating. So we grabbed a couple beers at a local pub and then headed back at our reservation time (8:30pm).

We were seated right away, three of the waiters walked by and complimented us on our wine choice (we brought in our own bottle) and the food was amazing.

Overall, a very happy accident.

Neighborhood restaurant welcomes well-to-do regulars with traditional Italian fare.. In Short
Though the owner hails from Croatia, he salutes his Italian relatives with dishes like artichokes with melted cheese, veal with fresh tomatoes and capers, and spaghetti with seafood. The name Girasole (which means sunflower) also originates from Italy, and a painting of the namesake blossom hangs amid the evenly spaced posters decorating the walls. Upper East Side patrons, who know the employees by name, dine frequently and leisurely at the cloth-covered tables.

Amazing Food! What An Elegant Evening!. The food was amazing, filling, and worth every penny. The service was ok but a little more casual than expected. I highly recommend the chicken with herbs and mushrooms. Nice creamy and thick tiramisu.

AWFUL RESTAURANT - AWFUL MANAGER. Never have I encountered a manager so full of himself, and so uninterested in his customers. The service was terrible, and the only response he could come up with was to insult me and my family, and to tell us that he had been there for sixteen years. DO NOT GO HERE!!!
