Awful Service
by androomlin
Bad service - they just don't care.
We ordered some breakfast here, waited at least 15 minutes, while everyone around us (even those who arrived and ordered later) was receiving their food. We thought something was wrong, so we asked our waitress who was already rude to begin with. She had forgotten to place the order with the kitchen! Her response: she shrugged her shoulders, said sorry in a feeble attempt, and walked off.
When she returned, we asked if she could give us a discount or something...she said that she just worked there. The owner of the shop, who was behind the counter, watched all of this and said nothing.
They don't care about you here.
- Pros: Malted milkshakes are OKAY.
- Cons: Service is horrible
American food doesn't get much better than this!

We went to the luncheonette for breakfast, then we went to the museum, but we loved the luncheonette so much we went back for a late lunch. 4 of us shared cinnamon raisin walnut french toast, fantastic pancakes and fresh squeezed orange juice. We've traveled a lot, and nobody does breakfast better. At lunch, we had a turkey club sandwich, a Lexington Special, a shrimp salad sandwich and a butter burger. We washed it all down with lemonades and a WOW vanilla milk shake. A must for any trip to New York, or any morning on the east side.
- Pros: great ambience, great beverages, great food, great location.
- Cons: no reservations accepted.
Prompt service followed by bad attitude and overpriced mediocre food
by DavidW415
We slipped into this place late one Monday morning the day after gay pride, wanting only a place to chill and talk, and have some breakfast. However, the middle-aged presumably native New Yorkers running the place had native New Yorker attitudes that made it hard for me to relax and enjoy my blueberry pancakes, orange juice and coffee. Unfortunately, even that meager order cost a fortune. And when we were done and lingering over our coffee in a virtually empty restaurant, we were practically stared out of our booth. Over all, the food was ok. The decor is interesting yesteryear. The service was prompt. The price was unreasonable even for New York. And the attitude was terrible. Two stars based on food, price, and attitude. At least, they didn't keep us waiting.
- Pros: War era decor
- Cons: bad attitude, overpriced
Nice small diner

The candy shop's most unique touch is the way they make any soda. They pump syrup into a glass and mix it with seltzer. The food is pretty good, but not out of the ordinary. Ice cream sodas, and floats...could be better, but they're not bad. Malts and shakes are good, and one thing they make is an egg shake which must be a pretty rare order since it's extremely high fat. Good place to have lunch in the area or to stop on the way back from the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
- Pros: soda made the old fashion way
- Cons: Too pricey considering the portions
Great Milkshakes, Malts and the like...

This place has a classic soda fountain--to make a coke, they squirt the syrup in a class and then fill it up with carbonated water, right there in front of you. I haven't seen that done anywhere else. The shakes and malteds are excellent.
- Pros: Great Shakes, "Retro" ambiance
