Tips for Mimi's Pizza & Family Rstrnt

Mimi's is one of my guilty pleasures. I used to live in the area and discovered it with a friend. I love the guys who work there! The fresh mozzarella and basil pizza is my favorite. The antipasto salad is not to be ignored either.

DISGUSTING ROACHES COOKED INTO ZITI. I ordered baked ziti and there was a HUGE ROACH cooked into the middle of it. Enough said. Never go to this place, it is disgusting.

Wow, just wow. It was my first time in NYC, and even though my friend used to live near here, he didn't know the nearest good pizza joint. So we hit up Mimi's pizza, because we figured it would be cheaper than some sandwich shop. The meal started with the server not knowing the difference between bottled water and tap water. We ordered garlic knots, and a large pizza with half onion. The garlic knots came, and immediately I saw how half of them were burnt on top. He handed us a stack of 4 plates, and I took the second one down. I saw that it was dirty, and I pointed this out to him, so he took it around the corner, out of view, and wiped it with a dry towel. I gave up and just went with it. Garlic knots didn't taste too bad, apart from the burntness. Next came our pizza. The onions were almost raw, like they remembered to put them on halfway through the cooking process. The sauce was watery junk. The cheese was nothing to get excited over. The crust was the best part of the pizza, and it was only so-so.

The men's bathroom had no soap. The music consisted of a hardcore instrumental jam session, followed by... Chinese music? I thought pizza was Italian? The decoration was decent, until I (a carpenter) saw the half-rate job done on the drop ceiling. You aren't supposed to have tiles that are three inches wide!!!

Overall, a party of four was charged $40, way too much given what we ordered. Given our overall service, Jesse decided to leave a large tip of $2. Then I took half of that and gave it back to him. I hope the server reads this, and remembers our 2.5% tip.

I'd sooner eat pizza from kay's in NEPA then eat there again.

The absolute best pizza in the world!. I grew up in New York City and have now been living in Canada for over 20 years.... The first time I ate pizza in Canada, I cried because it was the pits compared to Mimi's Pizza. I'm sooooooooooo happy to know that they still exist! I will be going back this year.... and I'll definitely be taking home a cooler of semi-cooked Mimi's cheese pizzas! Mimi's Pizza is the best pizza in the world! I can still taste it over 20 years later if I close my eyes! Way to go, Mimi's!

Treated poorly. Indifferance is one thing: these guys are rude and unpleasant.

This family-run pizzeria's fresh cheese pies and no-nonsense pastas have been keeping regulars happy for more than 40 years.. The Scene
The pink dining room, decorated with pictures of Frank Sinatra and the Pope, has seen better days. But the clientele of local businesspeople, shopkeepers, students and residents don't linger long enough to notice.

The Food
It's hard to top the simple cheese pie with its chewy, firm crust, slightly salty mozzarella and thick tomato sauce. But if you get fancy, you may end up disappointed. Pizza verde, for example, is soggy under the weight of canned artichokes and chopped fresh tomatoes. The same philosophy holds for the dinner menu: While plump cheese ravioli, covered in the same terrific tomato sauce, has an unmistakably homemade flavor and farfalle in Alfredo sauce with mushrooms is mercifully light, bland potato croquettes stuffed with mozzarella and prosciutto are proof that sticking with the basics is a good idea.

Lexington Avenue's best kept secret!. I went there on a rainy afternoon, and the pizza was terrific, good amount of cheese, sauce, and very crunchy. Never had the chance to thank the guys for the pizza, but I'd definitely go there again!

only good for one thing. This place is only good for one thing....a cheese slice. Venture beyond that and you will be disappointed!
