In Short – Built on a sprawling country estate in 1765, this house is the city's oldest and once simultaneously hosted four presidents of the United States--George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and John Quincy Adams. History resounds through the 8,500-square-foot Palladian-style space, which served as an inn before housing French emigrant Stephen Jumel and his wife Eliza, who later married (and then divorced) Vice President Aaron Burr. In 1904, the house began its life as a museum.
