The History – The doors of the Fort Washington first opened in April 1914, thanks to funds provided by industrialist/philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. Its many illustrious patrons have included Henry Kissinger, Jacob Javits, Maria Callas, Ralph Ellison, and Marianne Moore. – – The Collection – This branch contains circulating collections in Spanish, Greek, Russian and other languages, as well as northern Manhattan's largest collection of reference materials.
