Editorial Review for Poseidon Bakery – by Kevin McDonnell and Ian Zaretsky
In Short
Photos of Olympia Dukakis smile from behind the counter at this family-run bakery, supplier of tissue-thin phyllo to restaurants throughout New York as well as the general public. Poseidon offers a host of Greek baked goods, both sweet and salty. Theirs is known as some of the city's best baklava, with ground almonds and walnuts sandwiched in sheets of phyllo and bathed in honey. But the real reason to come here is for the savories. Spanakopita, a popular spinach- and feta-filled delight, makes a great lunch on the run.

The ExtrasLesser-known items like kreatopita (meat pie with a touch of mint) and menina mash (a vegetarian favorite consisting of potatoes, cabbage, greens and onions) also make great street food.
