The Scene
This go-to spot for the TV and film industry has experienced a major metamorphosis. The new design boasts plenty of natural light and open street views from the high-backed leather stools at the bar. Amber back-lit wine racks and glowing red candles warm the dining room's banquettes, which are perfect for lounging while waiting for the kitchen to work out its timing issues.
The Food
Starters are sharable: Try the crispy cheese quesadilla laced with sweet onions or the smoky battered rock shrimp that delivers on both punch and tanginess. A basic French onion soup is sadly unseasoned as is an overcooked steak frites, which comes with an oversized serving of bearnaise. Play it safe and order a burger--from veggie to Kobe--or juicy fried chicken with garlicky mashed potatoes. Desserts are lackluster, especially a caramelized banana split that would receive rave reviews if not for the ice cream's freezer burn.

Ordered "a glass of" Chardonnay - on the menu for $6. The bill came and it was $12. The waitress claimed it was because they have three sizes of pours, and my wife didn't specify which size she wanted, so she just gave us the more expensive size. The Manager got involved and admitted the menu is confusing, but blamed US for not being specific. When we asked why it's not protocol to ask what size someone would like, he said it would "embarrass" and make the customer seem "cheap" to order a small glass of wine. Then, even though we spent over $125, he refused to change the bill to reflect what she ordered, and stood by the doubled price. We work around the corner, and am sorry that Film Center will no longer be a place we feel comfortable patronizing in future. Thanks for years of dining - we're not inclined to return.

This is my favorite American restaurant anywhere. Service is excellent, they could teach a lot of restaurants in this city a thing or two about service. Menu - very American - very good. Calamari, burgers, you can blindfold yourself and pick at random and you're not going to be disappointed. Atmosphere is very comfortable and relaxing with out being sloppy.
