ARE YOU SERIOUS?. Not one person on these postings mentioned the horrific renovation of this once beloved bar. It had the original phone booth, table booths and decor from the 1950's. Film Center owners consulted some idiot interior designer to "update" the place. And what did they come up with you may ask? A look that resembles Bennigan's, TGI Fridays and Olive Garden COMBINED!!!!. Great looking "MALL" restaurant GUYS!!!!! And what puts salt in the wound is that when I was there 2 days ago, on their obligatory flat HD TV screen was a Baseball game. Now why is that odd? Their policy for years was to run old B&W movies all the time giving the ambiance to the name "FILM CENTER" .I asked if they could turn on TCM movie channel. The bartender called the owner to ask if it was OK. He refused to change the channel. And apologized by commenting that he personally is a rabid sports fan but felt the game on TV was absurd being that it is a film center after all. I want to congratulate FILM CENTER CAFE for DESTROYING their once unique, historically charming place. And turning into every other multi- TV sports bar in this soon to be over gentrified city with $10 gin & tonics..
Price gouging on drinks.
Ordered "a glass of" Chardonnay - on the menu for $6. The bill came and it was $12. The waitress claimed it was because they have three sizes of pours, and my wife didn't specify which size she wanted, so she just gave us the more expensive size. The Manager got involved and admitted the menu is confusing, but blamed US for not being specific. When we asked why it's not protocol to ask what size someone would like, he said it would "embarrass" and make the customer seem "cheap" to order a small glass of wine. Then, even though we spent over $125, he refused to change the bill to reflect what she ordered, and stood by the doubled price.
We work around the corner, and am sorry that Film Center will no longer be a place we feel comfortable patronizing in future. Thanks for years of dining - we're not inclined to return.
My Favourite American Restaurant...
This is my favorite American restaurant anywhere. Service is excellent, they could teach a lot of restaurants in this city a thing or two about service. Menu - very American - very good.
Calamari, burgers, you can blindfold yourself and pick at random and you're not going to be disappointed. Atmosphere is very comfortable and relaxing with out being sloppy.
Wonderful place. Food was excellent, waitstaff were superb! I would definitely recommend this restaurant and, of course, I'm going back!!!
use to make the best tuna salad. i remember back in the 1950's it was just a neighbor bar. i remember because3 my mom use to patronize it with her girlfriend Esther. my first comment. there was a man that use to make the best tuna salad in all of new york. this is my first comment
WOW!!! LOOKS GREAT...!!.
I have to say that place had a great make over. I had dinner there the first time after the renovation food is still good and the service is outstanding. YOU GO FILM
CENTER CAFE!!!! I?ll defiantly be back.
will definitely be back!. a group of us came in late on a friday night, expecting a long wait after the theater; however, we were quickly sat and were given great service. a great atmosphere and perfect lighting! the prices were affordable and afterwards we were given some great ideas for places to check out upon our departure--will recommend this place to many others. keep up the good work!!!!
GOOD FOOD, GREAT SERVICE AND THE PRICES ARE FANTASTIC !!!!!. I have been going to Film Center Cafe for the last 7 years and I never left that place disappointed. The food is always reliable and tasty and the waitresses are very friendly and accommodating. Sundays brunch is off the hook the deal is amazing $10 unlimited booze..!!!
One of the worst places Ive been to.
This place i the absolute worst. I went there yesterday for a complimentary dinner through the hotel i work for and they wre nothing but rude. Food the was horrible, servers were beyond rude and the manager was very careless with anything we had to say. It took over 20 minutes for my chocolate ice cream to be brought out. Meanwhile i watched my friend eat her whole entire Creme Brulee. The food wa very salty. We were ignored th whol time and felt very unwanted. Now call me crazy. When you are trying to network and promote your business wouldnt you want to "impress" the people who are trying to help you out?
There is way too much to type and not enough space. I would not recommend this place at all to anyone.
They lost our business and definitely the hotel guests. After the manager saying "we dont need your services, kep whoever you want out of here" .... there was much more i could add but i feel this is enough to get my point across.
Good Food, Service, Location. I've been to Film Center many times over the years. The reason my friends and I go back is mainly because of the good food, above average sevrice and great location. I'm always happy when I leave there. Consistently good....that's why I'll always return.
