Editorial Review for Swing 46 Jazz and Supper Club – by Julie Mehta
The Scene
Nestled on Restaurant Row, Swing 46's warm atmosphere and cool sounds draw many a tourist and theatergoer. Tables line the red walls of the long, narrow bar area that leads into the low-ceilinged main room with its spacious stage. The staff here fondly recalls a time when the room was packed with swing dancers night after night. Now the dance floor is crowded with black leather couches and white cloth-covered tables flanked by semi-private, raised seating areas often reserved for anniversary or birthday parties.
The Draw
Dancing is once again allowed, so you won't just be tapping your toes to the first-rate jazz, swing, blues and gospel acts that grace the stage (guest musicians sometimes come by to wind down after their gigs on Broadway). There's a lively martini list including the raspberry-heavy Swing 46 and a minty chocolate martini, as well as a full dinner menu.

Insider Tips
Know Before You GoFor just drinks and munchies, pay the $5 cover charge and watch the musicians on the TV in the bar area. But if you've come for the music, you'll pay an extra $5 to get into the main room.
Save MoneyThe pre-theater crowd can take advantage of the $25 three-course dinner special served until 7:30pm.

Very cooool bar. It has a lcompfy atmosphere to it and the bar tenders are all super cool, nice people. They are friendly to everyone, not just the regulars or the people they know. The live music they get in there is really good, jazz stuff that makes you wonder how these talented people aren't super famous! Great spot in NY!
Pros: Great music
Cons: food is not as good as place itself

i have to give swing 46 an mediocre rating because it's an average of two parts: the food, which was overpriced for what it is, and the music, which was wonderful. my bf and i went for dinner and dancing on a sat night- there is a lesson at 9 before the dancing begins which is nice but i suspect that everyone else there did not actually need the lesson except for us! we were those amateurs all over the dance floor! the waiter was very accommodating and though we weren't in the main room (we made reservations that day and i was told on the phone that we could not be seating in the main room) because it wasn't very crowded we were able to keep our table the whole night to come back for drinks between sets. i cant see how other reviewers complain about this - if you make your reservations late how are they supposed to give you a table that someone else has already reserved?? anyway, there were some negative parts of the experience- namely, the food. my scallops were good, but not $26 good, and my bf's medium rare steak was burnt to a crisp and after waiting almost an hour for the food he was not in the mood to send it back and wait another hour to eat. despite that disappointment, however, we had a fun night and it's a great place for a special occasion date if you like this sort of thing. next time we'll skip dinner and just pay the $15 cover to drink and dance.
Pros: great music and ambiance
Cons: overpriced and misprepared food
