Besides sushi and sashimi, this restaurant is known for mushroom dishes, as well as the omakase, or chef's choice, menu.

  11. Less favored: yellowtail and some flat fish, but I think that was due to characteristics of the fish itself rather than preparation.
  12. theatre. Good pieces of fresh sushi and sashimi just blocks away from your show!
  13. The sushi/sashimi is outstanding and the speciality dishes are beyond greatness.
  14. Wonderful also was a mushroom medley with garlic--don't miss out on this!
  15. The crispy fish salad has a light fishy taste, not too overpowering.
  16. The tuna, salmon, and mackerel were the best sushi we've had ever.
  17. piled on the wasabi, forgot my manners in my haze, & thoughtlessly placed my chop sticks down in a manner associated with someone who finished a meal-two parallel chopsticks placed on the bowl, rather than two chop sticks placed in a cross hatch positio

  1. The serving pottery they use is also a treat--really beautiful, and such variety!
  2. Our friends knew how to order (they didn't even look at the menu) so I wonder if we would have had such a great experience on our own.

Fantastic Barachirashi and fugu!!

by latouramg at Citysearch

I've read the article on the-feedbag prior to going to Sushi Zen

I had the Barachirashi for lunch there! GREAT! stuff!!

It was so great we decided to go have dinner the following evening

I sat in front of Chef Suzuki as he recommended the Fugu! it was fantastic!

the fish is definitely fresh well prepared and well presented

the preparation process was very entertaining!

It was really great to find this place!

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND GETTING A SEAT AT THE SUSHI BAR!

will go back again!

price was a bit on the high side but IMO compared to the quality of the food and treatment you get

else where it was well worth the price!

  • Pros: Great presentation, fresh fish, very entertaining sushi bar
  • Cons: slightly on the high side. so grab a seat at the sushi bar to get your money worth!

The best sushi in NY

by cat_nyc2005 at Citysearch

I go to many sushi places in the city and Sushi Zen is the best so far. Waiters and waitresses are polite and helpful. But, just make sure to make a reservation-it's usually quite crowded.

Service - Service - Service!

by meditrix at Citysearch

I piled on the wasabi, forgot my manners in my haze, & thoughtlessly placed my chop sticks down in a manner associated with someone who finished a meal-two parallel chopsticks placed on the bowl, rather than two chop sticks placed in a cross hatch position-suddenly, the server appeared out of no where (I assume the server kept a watchful eye upon us, but I never felt his presence in the slightest) offered to clear my plate-I write, "offered" because I want to differentiate his professional manner from the countless "rushers" who wisk our plates away at other establishments. When I declined, he made certain not to offer again- even when I repeated the mistake-being attentive enough to notice, offer and refill my wine glass without reference to nor notice of my table manners. Kudos to the staff and the other review -- they are polite in the true sense.

  • Pros: fish, service, allergy friendly
  • Cons: midtown, MIDTOWN, MIDTOWN
