Pergola des Artistes has been a fixture in the Theatre District for 45 years. I do not think that it will or should make it to its 50th anniversary. My family discovered the Pergola shortly after moving into Hell's Kitchen. We found the service a bit rough but the cuising was quite good. Now the service is horrible and the food is inedible. Most recently (on my final visit) I had the foie gras to start. I hesitated, because the time before, the foie came out frozen. Too hard to cut except with extraordinary force. This time, the presentation was horrible. One pile of glop that looked like snot and a slice that obviously came off a canned bloc. No bread to eat with it, mandating the use of the bread that had been served for the table. Then the main course came and I realized the the restaurant is toast. I ordered filet of sole meuniere. I got a totally unsauced filet of something that might have been flounder, covered in breadcrumbs and fried until it was dry and hard. And tasteless. Hey, it's called meuniere because of the brown butter sauce. It was 100% inedible. Did anyone ever come by to ask how the meal was? No. IN fact, the waiter disapeared after serving the meal and was never seen again. It took just shy of half an hour to get the check, too, resulting in our very nearly missing the curtain at a show less than a block away. They have stopped caring. Stay away and maybe someone competent will move into this neat location and serve edible food. We can hope, right?
Pros: Location.
Cons: Food inedible and service imperceptible

My bf and I went here with a recommendation from a family friend, who actually hooked us up huge. The service was fine. But since our meal was a comp, they essentially picked out what we ate, seriously, we didn't order, it was chose for us. Thank god he didn't bring escargot, we wouldn't have ate it! I wasn't eating meat at this stage but I suppose it was fine since once again it was being taken care of and my bf and I shared this dish. Busy, packed, unsure as to why? The food was fine, but rather average for its prices. I felt bad for their being understaffed, and it was awkward. Nonetheless, I don't really have a overall great thing to say but perhaps french cuisine isn't my scene. Oh well.
Pros: ? Service was friendly.
Cons: Too many to list.
