Truly a shame
by Bogframe
My grandmother took me to Lindy's when I was a kid in the 60s, and the food was great. The cheesecake was even better than the dinner. it was light, creamy and just sweet enough without being too sweet.
I took my (then) new wife there a few weeks after we got married and ordered the cheesecake. I took one bite and called for the manager. The disgusting mass on my plate bore no more resemblance to Lindy's cheesecake than tofu does to a porterhouse steak. What I was served was dense, heavy, slightly sour and gritty. I demanded and got my money back and will never return. If you want GOOD NY cheesecake, go to Junior's in Brooklyn. Lindy's is lousy.
- Pros: none
- Cons: Overpriced and food that would make Leo Lindy cry.
Don't waste your time or your money

My husband and I went to NYC to see a show and to have a weekend away. Since we are from Boston and have quite a few fine dining establishements where we are from, we decided to skip the fancy dining and to go with the popular local favorites while in NYC. Having stayed at the Sheraton NY, we were right across the street from Lindy's. It looked really nice from the outside. They claimed to have the "best" cheesecake amongst other good eats so we decided to go for breakfast on our last day. Surprisingly it was quite empty inside. Being so popular and all we expected it to be pretty busy. Once the menu came.....we knew why nobody was there. An average breakfast with eggs, toast, and bacon was WELL over $20. Of course they named their dishes something interesting to make them sound good like the "Jack Nickolson" but when you read what was on the plate it was basic breakfast items. A cup of coffee was $4.50 and a bagel with cream cheese which was one of the cheapest items on the menu was close to $9! We were close to leaving but decided to stay since we were already there. I ordered their quote "World Famous" cheesecake. It may be world famous but for all the wrong reasons. Sarah Lee frozen cheesecake is better! The only thing positive about our visit was being entertained by the other customers that walked in after us and the shocking look on their faces and comments that followed once they looked at the prices on the menu.
Don't eat at Lindy's
by aerosync504
Ate at Lindy's in September of 2008. It was a very hot day and they wouldn't seat anyone inside. They made us sit outside in the heat! (maybe they don't have a.c.) The food was so incredibly expensive. I ended up getting mozzarella stick and my mom got chicken fingers and we split it. For the amount of money we paid there wasn't anything special about them. The waiter ignored us half the time. I will never eat here again and I would never recommend it to others. There are so many other places to eat in the city, don't waste your time on this place!!!
- Pros: Good location
- Cons: Food, Price, Staff...
Lindy's cheesecake is worst than instant frozen cheesecake
by kenshin24
I paid over $7 for one slice of original cheesecake at Lindy's.
Not only price too high but the cheesecake itself was horrorable.
It is shame that they posted 'World Famous Cheesecake' outside
of their restaurant as it is big false advertisement.
My advice is DO NOT GO TO LINDY'S FOR CHEESECAKE!!!
- Pros: you can always find the seats due to not many customers.
- Cons: over priced cheesecake that is worse than frozen instant one at super market.
Worst over-priced food in the city
by enjoy2travel
Talk about a tourist trap. Should've known by how empty the place was. Nice-looking on the outside, God awful on the inside. Very expensive (children's menu at around $11.00/kid), if not charred hot dog, dull tasting club sandwich. There is nothing good to be said about this place. The tab was as high as if we had gone to a fancy restaurant for dinner, not a diner for a snack. Awful.
- Pros: Nothing.
- Cons: Everything.
