Editorial Review for 44 Restaurant – by Paul Adams
The Scene
At the end of the Royalton's long, visually captivating lobby is 44. The hotel's peak of chic has past; though it retains its fine accoutrements and Philippe Starck-designed quirks, there's a feeling of faded glory throughout. The service can vary widely, from at-your-elbow to nowhere-in-sight.
The Food
The menu is filled with luxury ingredients--foie gras, lobster, truffles--some in unlikely contexts. Even a simple salmon steak gets a champagne mousse. Beautifully executed standouts include the warm lobster salad with potatoes, truffles and pancetta, tuna tartare with creme fraiche and rib-eye steak with roasted tomatoes. The one-layer lasagna, containing richly flavored oxtail pieces and celeriac puree larded with foie gras, is heavy and complex, though still tasty.

Insider Tips
What to DrinkThe wine list is well chosen and varied, with several Opus Ones as well as a number of cheaper treats, such as Oregon's delicious Benton Lane pinot noir.

The first time I went here was before seeing Hot Feet, and I loved it. The service was amazing and the staff was so polite. The only thing is that they took a long time to bring our food and by the time they brought it out my friends and family were all ready to go to the show so we allowed the food to come out the kitchen to at least see how presentation, and then we had the food sent back in to the kitchen to be packaged up. And because they knew they took a long time to prepapre the food and that we would not be able to bring the food intol the theatre they were kind enough to hold onto our food. And ever since that night I have been there ever since. My fav is something with scallops, and green lobster mashed potatoes (I think its lobster), and my fav app. is their crabcakes, they are so good, which I would suggest ordering at least two for yourself because you'll probably end up sharing.
Pros: Food, Location, Seating, Ambience
Cons: Time you have to wait for food, I definately suggest ordering app.

Always my favorite spot to come for special occasions... Came this time as a special event for Christmas- Then went to the theater with family after our meal. It was still as wonderful as it ever was.
Pros: Atmosphere and Design, Food
Cons: Sometimes Service
