Old-Fashioned Saloon. Cleo's is a friendly old-fashioned NYC bar, no attempt to be what it isn't. Good place to stop in after seeing a play. The crowd is a wonderful mixture of white/blue collar. Cleo's holds its own in the increasingly gentrified Clinton area.

A welcoming neighborhood gay bar in the Theater District..
In Short
Two large rainbow flags hang from the bar's exposed brick walls, and Cher blasts from the video juke box. Gay 20- to 40-somethings jockey for available seating at the long bar, read a book from the mini-library or catch one of the saloon's monthly drag shows. The bargain drinks attract most of its visitors, with 12 choices of bottled beer, five draft beers and a variety of well drinks all under $4.
Friendly local bar. We visited twice in a week and the second time, they remembered my name. Wow!! The first visit was at the weekend and it was very quiet, the second time was on Tues when they hold a weekly drag show with "Ginger". (who minus dresses and wigs is your barman at other times) The drinks here are not exciting but are reasonably priced and are served with a real human warmth that is hard to find elsewhere. This place is unsophisticated but has a heart of gold. Good old human contact can't be beat. Couple that with and a fun drag show and the place is worth a visit. A slice of profits and donations from shows are used for charity. We left with free CDs, having had a good time, feeling like a part of a community and having helped the sick. Not bad for a night out!
