Its enduring identity crisis is perhaps one of this unpretentious watering hole's greatest charms. Owned by former boxer and trainer Jimmy Glenn, it's a sports bar situated in the heart of the Theater District that attracts an intoxicating mix of boisterous businessmen, veteran winos, in-the-know tourists and actors relaxing after a night on the boards. Cheap beer, multiple TV sets, an awesome collection of boxing memorabilia, a fierce jukebox and an adorable Eurotrash waitstaff are all key attractions. But in the end, it's the authentic, old-school NYC vibe that entices patrons from all walks of life to enter this claustrophobic bar and its small back room. The decor hasn't changed (or been dusted) since the 1970s, and after an hour of listening to blues and jazz hits, you'll really believe you're back in the 20th century.

Very few bars manage to successfully maintain their charm for decades. Jimmie's Corner is one of those extremely rare places that continues to exist amidst a world of change. The owner, Jimmie, is a former boxing coach (hence the name of the bar) and can frequently be found behind the bar, doling out drinks to the regulars. Don't be mistaken -- this is not a fancys landmark by any stretch. This is a joint and should be cherished as one.

On our recent trip to NYC, we dropped into Jimmy's Corner not having a clue what we had stumbled into. Being huge sports fans, my Father, brother and I were very familiar with who Jimmy Glenn was and was pleasantly surprised to find out that we had landed in his bar. The drinks were great and cheap compared to the ridiculous prices we had been paying at the other bars we dropped into. The service was the best and friendliest that we experienced on our entire trip to NYC. Mr. Glenn and his wife (whom we were told afterwards, nevers has her picture taken with anyone) Both took the time out of there day to snap a picture with us and just make a little small talk. Mrs. Glenn served up our drinks and Mr. Glenn sat and visited with us like we were long time friends. If you are in NYC you have to make it by this bar and have a drink or two and just check out the warm atmosphere and some of the coolest people in New York. The BEST bar by far!!!

It definitely wasn't what we were expecting when we read the reviews, but it is as stated a small little local bar, a definite break from the Times Square feel that Midtown usually offers. A very friendlys staff, very reasonable drink prices but a very unusual crowd. It could have just been the night we were in there, but the atmosphere was almost a little bit scary.
