“If you are in NYC you have to make it by this bar and have a drink or two and just check out the warm atmosphere and some of the coolest people in New York.”
“The best bar in NYC!”
“An authentic NYC bar”
“The place is small but if you are looking for something different and casual among all the hustle and bustle of NYC, this is a good place.”
“If you are in NYC you have to make it by this bar and have a drink or two and just check out the warm atmosphere and some of the coolest people in New York.”
“guess it helps that I'm a huge boxing fan.”
“Jimmy Glenn is a true gentleman, and if you can get him to sit still long enough to tell his stories you are in for a treat, the staff is great, the drinks are cheap, and we always meet a lot of great people from all over the world.”
Jimmie's Corner has developed a not-undeserved reputation as the consummate New York dive bar, and while it's probably a little too friendly / well-lit for that, the true dank stupor and ennui of a dive bar hover unmistakably in the air like cigarette smoke. This is a bar you go to sit down, have a few drinks, and run away from your thoughts as best you can. It's a refuge of desperate men, cuckolds, and the bankrupt. An occasional beam of oblivious tourist sunshine comes in from time to time but rarely stays for long.
Great bar. We go to New York every year, and our son found Jimmy's Corner 8 years ago, and every year we make it back. Jimmy Glenn is a true gentleman, and if you can get him to sit still long enough to tell his stories you are in for a treat, the staff is great, the drinks are cheap, and we always meet a lot of great people from all over the world. Not one complaint from anyone we met, see you next year Jimmy.
best bar in manhattan.. i visit nyc every year and this is by far the best bar i've been in. it's just off times sq but once inside you can just chill out. it's got a great jukebox, really friendly staff - jimmy's one of the nicest guys i've met. the beer is cold and cheap and although i may be one, there are hardly ever any tourists inside. it may get a little crowded sometimes, but it adds to the atmosphere. in my opinion, the best bar in manhattan (and i've been in quite a few!). can't wait 'til i'm back again.
Real bar for real people. Friendly but sassy service, an owner who keeps it simple but never stale, no price gouging on drinks and a great jukebox consistently mentioned as one of NY's finest. If you're a poseur who'd rather sit on a sofa sipping rip-off girlie drinks, probably best to stay away. If you like a laid-back place that's a slice of the real NY amidst all the tourist traps surrounding it, enjoy!
Best Bar in NYC. By far my favorite place to drink in NYC. I guess it helps that I'm a huge boxing fan. But there's more to Jimmy's than just the virtual boxing Hall of Fame on the walls. A great jukebox with the best in blues, R&B and jazz from the last half century. A neighborhoody atmosphere that is one of the least pretentious in Manhattan. Also, by far the most reasonable drink prices for that touristy area of town. Jimmy's is a low-key, laid-back treasure. If you like boxing you may also run into any number of fighters or managers who come to visit Jimmy there.
A Dive In The Best Sense.
If you want to go to a bar, not a taver, pub, or lounge, head straight for Jimmy's. This is a place to sit, drink, and talk.
The bartender's are always attractive and usually have a foreign accent. Don't ask for any complicated cocktails.
Heck Yeah!.
If you're like me, and think getting a drink should involve neither a mortgage nor a makeover, getting a drink in Midtown can be dicey at best. Too much attitude, too much style.
Jimmy's has neither attitude nor style. And that makes it wonderful.
It's kinda weird, really, that this place exists. It's a neighborhood bar without a neighborhood. 'Dive' makes it sounds dirty or seedy or something, none of which it is. Jimmy's would be perfectly at home on a corner in Astoria or Boerum Hill. But it's not. It's just off Times Square. Like it got lost or something. Lucky for us...
Great dive!. A great place to grab a quick beer, although I usually end up staying for two or three! Great service, although the small bar can get crowded and very smoky (and I'm a smoker!)
Huge disappointment.
After reading the reviews I was expecting something special - maybe they just didn't like my face !
The place was small, bar seating antisocial ad the drinks warmand not that cheap. I'm sure it ha it's good days but unfortunately I hit a bad one....
just don't move the stools. great place anytime! total dive, but cheap and relaxed. the boxing decor is impressive. keep jimmy happy - don't move the bar stools from their particular spots!
10. 2.30 am, late September 2001, chucking it down with rain, just flew in from LA and been ripped off by a pikey taxi driver in a van ($90 from JFK...Bas*£$d) stuck me head out of the doors of The Millenneum Broadway and saw the glow coming from Jimmy's, wandered over not expecting much. Did I get a shock! friendly bar staff, friendly patrons, great juke box (was I really in NYC!) Was humbled by the sight of Fire Men in dusty clothes having a quiet beer, and reflected on how the whole City must be feeling. Became my local, then again in December and will again in August when I fly over from the UK for a weeks holiday......will use a yellow cab this time!!!
