Hell Kitchen landmark and beloved dive-bar Rudy's Bar & Grill is a mainstay New York City bar with plenty of history, unbeatable drink prices and a laid-back atmosphere where co-workers and friends alike can congregate for happy hour or just a night out on the town.
This Manhattan bar opened in 1933 by the Rudy family, and it was one of the first liquor licenses issued in New York City after prohibition ended. Rudy's Bar & Grill still has the original wood door from the day it opened, however it's more notable mascot is the friendly pig statue who sits outside.
Rudy's Bar & Grill is Hell's Kitchen's local dive bar, filled with fun times. They have a backyard, where they have sports every night on their 100 square foot projected TV. With $5 pitchers in the day, and $7 pitchers at night, you're bound to have a great night. Come for the cheap beer, free hot dogs and great people!

The Scene
Rudy's is one of the last bars in Manhattan where suits, slackers and lifetime ne'er-do-wells commingle in a laid-back, beer-laden haze. It's always loud and crowded, even when the backyard "garden" is open. And when you're ready to date out of your comfy little social circle, slap on your sluttiest lipstick or your spiffiest blue jeans and head here. Chances are you'll cozy up in one of Rudy's little red banquettes with someone new before long.
The Draw
Heated on one of those fast-food rotisseries and served with a plain white bun and a little mustard, the full-sized hot dogs are always free and always available--so long as "the hot dog guy" is behind the bar. The blackboard lists about 12 brews on tap, from Bud to Checker Cab Blonde Ale; Rudy's Red, the house brew, is dirt cheap but rather weak.

We visited Rudy's Thanksgiving 2008 on the advice of a friend who has a business on 46th. It was awesome. The bartender greeted us immediately. The beer prices are incredible, and keep in mind you are only blocks from Times Square. It is an easy and safe walk, especially if you walk down 46th (Restaurant Row). The atmosphere is dive bar, which we loved. Everyone was friendly and having a great time. We are middle aged and some places are so young that we feel a little out of place. I can't imagine anyone ever feeling out of place in Rudy's. We will be back in July. Save a red booth for us!! Texas loves you!!

Best dive in the hood. I've never ordered the free hotdogs, but they smell pretty good. Just don't order one with katsup and make a fool of yourself.
