The Scene – This cutting-edge classic was conceived by Ian Schrager and the late Steve Rubell. The hyper-stylish lobby resembles a fashion catwalk more than a traditional reception/checkout area. The velvet-lined bar sits inside the open-style "44" restaurant at the back of the lobby. Its curvy, lime-colored banquettes and tassel-draped mirrors attract many of New York's media elite, as well as models, stylists and photographers. – – The Details – The lobby's sleek design aesthetic--crafted by Philippe Starck--is carried into the 205 guest rooms. Royalton New York: Fantastic - Great Location - Superb Staff
by Bean811
My boyfriend and I stayed at the Royalton for 2 nights in mid-October. This was my first trip to NYC. While the entrance is quite understated, it's not difficult to find if you simply use a little common sense and look up at the name and address. We stayed in a "standard room". The room was a perfect size for the two of us and had a little desk area and sofa. It was rather roomy and had a great closet and large bathroom, so I'm not really sure what other people have been complaining about size wise saying the rooms are small. The “rain forest” style shower is BEYOND AWESOME!!! Great water pressure!!! The room was decorated with nice clean lines and soft muted colors - very serene - and came with a Bose iPod Sound System, iPad & Large HD TV. BTW every room comes with an iPad to use during your stay. We didn’t find the hotel dark as other reviewers noted... it's just the decor of this hotel and YES you can see and YES there is more than enough light in the rooms. The location is perfect - right off 5th Ave and just blocks from Times Square and Broadway, which made it very quick and easy to get to the subway. All the staff we encountered were extremely pleasant, happy and fulfilled any of our requests quickly and efficiently. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in Mid-town area.
Drinks and Appetizers
by Don001
Met a friend here after work for some drinks and appetizers. Very comfortable front areas with interesting and warm decor. Sampled many of the appetizers and all were excellent - the tuna tartar being a standout. Drinks were good and not watered down as is often the case with some hotel bars and the wine list was deep with many excellent wines by the glass. Pleasantly surprised because I hadn't been here in many, many years. Careful, because some areas are very loud.

- Pros: Great service, luxurious rooms
Swanky interior, but hope you're not claustrophic

I'm a big fan of the Royalton and really enjoyed my stay, although the rooms are pretty small (even by Manhattan standards) and could use better lighting.
The foyer level bar scene is great - bring your expense account - and the hotel has a more relaxed atmosphere than it's midtown counterparts. Recommended!
- Pros: Interior decor; relaxed vibe; great bar area
- Cons: Dinky sized rooms
