In Short
Neighborhood customers wait their turn on wine-colored velvet settees surrounded by gold and exposed brick walls, then accompany their hair dresser to one of the styling stations sprinkled around the room (on either side of back-to-back gilded mirrors). Hair color is the specialty here, but cuts and perms--including the gentler aromatherapy waves which aren't as harsh-smelling--are also popular. A scalp massage is an extra bonus with any shampooing session.

I recently visited David Ryan salon for last minute highlights. They got me in within the hour and I saw Veronica who was very cool and professional. She listened to what I wanted and got right to work. The prices, while not cheap, are still affordable for Manhattan and I look forward to trying out out the salon for a cut.
Pros: Got an appointment right away
Cons: cash only tips

I've worked in NYC for two years and finally found David Ryan on CS. I liked what I saw (even if their website is down!) and booked an appt. As soon as you walk in the vibe is awesome. It's not pretencious like other "high end" spot, and the price is great!. They have great stylist, a cool guy at the front desk that welcomes you and sets up your next visit (if wanted) before you leave. OH....the haircut! It was one of the best I've ever had. I can be a difficult cut b/c I have a bald spot on the side of my head that makes the cut harder to nail....this was no problem and I looked great! All in all, I really enjoyed this place and will def. go back
Pros: Low key but very cool vibe, great cut
Cons: n/a
