“the place was very clean and Melissa was very nice and helpful in making me feel comfortable because this was my first short hair cut in 23 years and I was a nervous reck!”
“gave her a huge hug and thanked her so much because she is honestly a master with those scissors.”
stay away from rochelle.
she is poison with a perm, i guess that's why she has no hair herself.
I wouldnt let her do a dog's head.
Stay away from Jawarra.
Absolutely HORRIFIC. I saw the stylist Jawarra and he is absolutely TERRRIBLE at cutting real hair. My hair was bob length, had been growing out a short tapered haircut. I asked Jawarra to add subtle layers for a little movement while leaving the length. My hair is now choppy and at least 2-3" shorter than what I asked. My hair is completely butchered. For the love of god, if you have real hair do not see this stylist.
I was largely pissed off as because as many stylist do, he tried to tell me I wasn't clear about what I wanted. Then his argument changed each time when I addressed him with my concerns.
1st argument - I asked, why is my haircut now unbalanced. The longer side is completely shorter than the side that was once shaved.
2nd argument - I told him to cut the back shorter? Why would I ask to cut the back shorter if I'm growing out my hair and it's all one length now?
3rd argument - he tried to convince me that my hair was damaged. If it was damaged, how did I leave a salon with an unbalanced hair cut?
4th argument - I sent him a picture of what my hair looked like 2 months prior to his hair cut. Then he tries to convince me that I "styled" my hair incorrectly? So you mean to tell me, you decided to cut my hair the way YOU wanted after I asked for subtle layers.
Ladies steer far and clear from this stylist. I've never been soo adamant in my life to stay away from a stylist as Jawarra. How do you go in with healthy, full hair, to short choppy layers which now looks damaged. seeing is believing, I have pictures for the proof.
I'm pissed off that I even have to put a rating up for this stylist.
My recommendation, go with Shelly or Derek. Go to Jawarra if you want an unintentional Emo haircut.
The Mirror NEVER Lies..................
I hadn't had my hair cut into a style since my Salt & Pepa haircut...lol. I did so much research and asked around until I was referred to Salon 804 by a childhood friend and his wife and was told to ask for Melissa. I went a week before Thanksgiving nervous and scared to death, it must of been written all over my face because everyone in the salon knew it.
Melissa is a beautiful individual, with a TON of patience, she talked me through the entire process so I wouldn't be in any shock with the end result.
The one thing I noticed, she doesn't face you towards the mirror when she's working on you, I guess it's to create the element of surprise. Well, it WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't believe my reflection, I stood there in shock and Melissa stood next to me with a smile. She did an AMAZING job, the cut was lower then what I was use to but it fit my face. The ladies there were really friendly. The vibe in the atmosphere was positive and you felt the energy. Everyone was in a good mood. Though I live up in Rockland county (45min away), it is sooooooooo worth the trip to Harlem.
HOT HOT HOT. Me and my friend have googled this salon numerous time and read every single review before we went to this place until we finally decided to just go. we both wanted hair cuts that made a statement and were different. .We went on October 17,2009 and we both had an appointment with Mellissa. When we first walked in the waiting area is a little small but it was a Saturday and Rochelle the owner has a lot of walk ins waiting but me and my friend only waited about 15 minutes before we started to get our wash. the place was very clean and Melissa was very nice and helpful in making me feel comfortable because this was my first short hair cut in 23 years and I was a nervous reck!!!... But to make a long story short everyone that left the salon that day while I was there had a banging hairstyle and it fit them and showed a lot of confidence in every person that walked out...These stylist in there know what there doing and they make the style that you want fit your face and your personality. Mellissa chose a short partially shaved bob style hair cut for me because I have a big forhead lol and round face..When I looked in the mirror once she was done I was speachless I started to cry because my hair was beautiful. I gave her a huge hug and thanked her so much because she is honestly a master with those scissors. As far as prices. It can be a little expensive depending on what you are getting but TRUST and BEILIEVE you get what you pay for. For a cut wash and style was $75 and to go back and just get it washed and styled is 40.00...For the professionalism and gurantee that you will love your hair 75.00 for a hair cut it not bad in my book. This was my first hair cut so I wanted it done right and everyone in that salon does there thing. I cant wait to go back on Saturday..
I wil never forget these people.
Essence DOES NOT need to give this salon anymore exposure than they've already received. The owner and her makeup artist minion were THE WORST PEOPLE I've ever encountered not to mention some of their staff who, at the time, were catty (and I'm talking about the dudes).
My experience with this "salon" altered the course OF MY LIFE, for my experience with their salon made me change careers so women would not have to be subjected to the disgusting behaviors exhibited at Salon 804.
It was 6:00 am, the morning of my WEDDING, when these scoundrels left me stranded in Harlem waiting for my hair to get done and continue with my day.
THESE FOOLS STOOD ME UP... One of their staff members opened up the shop and let me in...I sat for hours waiting for these fools to come. The staff member kept trying to call until they got in touch with the owner who told me, over the phone with an attitude, that she would not be able to make it because she was doing a photo shoot, in like, Queens or something and to have someone else in the salon, someone I did not pay $500 for a wedding consultation, to do my natural hair or I could wait...which I did...
The afternoon came, the stylist was perplexed and I was vexed, but tried to keep my cool. I ended up leaving in the mid-afternoon for another appointment without my hair having being touched.
I ended up having a 5 minute shower before my wedding, NO PEDICURE OR MANICURE because I wasted the entire morning at the salon and wetting my hair and sticking it under my veil...not to mention, I specifically told them I wanted a style I could wear throughout my honeymoon. I wore a brightly colored scarf that didn't match anything I packed for my honeymoon the entire trip overseas.
I felt like I looked horrible my entire wedding and honeymoon. I never even got the pictures from either event. My husband and I are planning to do it again, but it shouldn't have to be that way.
I really don't care about the good reviews, because these people, if you are not chic in their eyes, couldn't care less about you.
IF THERE IS A DISPUTE WITH MY COMMENT, PRODUCE THE CONTRACT CAUSE I SURE AS HELL AM READY TO TAKE THIS THROUGH THE SYSTEM... I'VE STILL GOT TWO GOOD YEARS TO TAKE IT TO THE JUDICIAL HOLE...
Ive been to Salon 804...on this coming Monday it will 4 times. The first time was a couple years ago.A stylist name Jersey did my hair and I loved it..Now I go to Ayana and I have to say she is great! Not only can she do some hair, but shes a sweetheart, doesnt keep u waiting hella long (even without an appointment,1st I saw her I was a walk-in), she's very professional and keeps my hair HOT everytime I leave the salon! I also love the the fact that they are open on Mondays which is rare! I can only speak for myself when I say Ive always had a good experience at this salon....and I have and will continue to refer their services!
fabulous cut & style. I came in with my hair dyed brown & way past my shoulders, I was recommended to see Shelly. I told her I wanted a short short cut & didn't want to dye it any more. I left her chair looking absolutely FABULOUS. The cut fits my face perfectly & I get compliment every where I go. The grey came back in & I look 10 years younger. I've never had my hair cut this short & probably will never let it grow back. I've also had my hair done by the owner (Rochelle), & they are at the top of their game. I have never seen anybody leave there with a bad doo. I recommend them highly. It does get crowded in there, but somethings are worth waiting for, & this is one of them.
just visited salon 804 on the advice of a friend and the wait was HORRENDOUS. i sat there for an HOUR before anyone looked at me while everyone who came in after me scooted on in. i'm used to waiting in salons but not being IGNORED by the entire staff.
it took 4 hours to get a 10min wash, a 20 min dry, and a 10 min style at 11am on a friday morning. some people left there looking pretty good but i wasnt one of them. HATED IT!
Great Hair Salon. I'm extremely picky about who I let TOUCH my hair and when I was looking for a new stylist a few months ago, this salon was suggested. I made an appt. with Rochelle (the owner) and I was thrilled with the service I recieved. The products are high end and she knows how to stack clients so that I'm never left waiting and I'm always in and out within 2 hours. My hair is thick, healthy and always feels and smells good after every service. Salon 804 is definitely where you want to go if you want to maintain a healthy head of hair.
Plan to make an appointment in two days.
Am currently looking for a new salon, and plan to make an appointment here in a day or two. Ambiance looks great. This is why I'm on the hunt for a new salon:
Horrific experience today as a result of an unprofessional and characteristically grumpy owner, Pascuala, at my former salon. Here is the scenario: There is a particular hairdresser who normally does my daughter's hair. Today, when I realized the hairdresser was not at her station, I casually inquired. The owner, Pascuala, perceived my inquiry as an affront, and said I should not be asking about particular hairdressers. She added that ALL of her staff can blowdry hair; therefore, it didn't matter where my daughter's usual stylist was. I was APPALLED. Apparently, Pascuala felt that asking about a particular stylist makes the others seem inadequate. That certainly was not my intention. Since no one else has ever done my daughters hair, I have not formed an opinion about their work, nor was I alluding to their skills or abilities when I inquired about the usual stylist. It is simply that the usual stylist has always done a great job with my daughter, so it is natural that I would ask about her. Pascuala flat out refused to tell me when the stylist would be back, and ordered the hair washer to stop lathering my daughters’ hair! I had to insist that they finish what they started, and Pascuala told me to never come back! To top it off, she charged three more dollars than usual (SAME wash/set each time)! All of this because I simply inquired about the usual stylist. I strongly suspect that the Stylist I asked about either quit or was fired, because if she were still working at Pascuala’s Hair Salon, I don’t think my query would have elicit such a response. In any event, the response was offputting, rude, and disheartening. I will NEVER go back. Look foward to Salon 804!!~Signing off from Manhattan~
