Read, Pick a Time and Go, NOW!. Once again, by chance, fate has awakened my palate to a new surprise. Red has it all! If you're looking for Mexican, South of the Border fan fare then this is it. My 1st time was last weekend, and already I'm back. The food is supreme freshness all the way down to the perfectly ripened avocados. The outdoor tables are perfect as the breeze from the South Street Seaport set the mood for a beautiful meal. Even the music with its Latin-House influence is perfectly inclined to persuade you to enjoy. So please go, and spread the word tell the manager Buron I sent you.
Editorial Review by Marcella Veneziale. The dinner menu offers plenty of variations on standbys like tacos, burritos, and enchiladas, while dessert pinata teas bloom in hot water.
Bad Waitress!.
A few pals and I went here for a happy hour afterwork thing. It was nice to sit outside and get some of that financial district sea breeze in my hair. The atmosphere was alrightt, but other than that, Red isn't much to write home about. First of all, our waitress was nowhere to be seen when we needed her, and when we got the check, of course she was hovering. The food took forever to make, and wasn't that hot. The margaritas and beers were in small dixie cups instead of normal sized cups for some reason. What a rip!
The place was pretty packed however, and seems to be a popular stop for afterwork Wall Streeters if that's your thing.
ok, but far from special. ive been here many times due to convenience rather than food quality. the enchiladas ($10.95 for chicken, $12.95 for beef) are decent and come with creamy mild guacamole, salsa, and rice. the chimichangas are ok too. meals are preceded by complimentary salsa & chips. portions arent very large for a mexican restaurant and i dont think that its super cheap either, but ive never had any real complaints. the only thing that annoys me is their no substitions policy. i asked for soft tortillas with my fish tacos instead of crispy shells, and they refused to substitute even when i offered to pay extra. restaurants should always be flexible, especially with such simple requests. ive never had alcohol here, but ive seen lots of offices here for happy hour. service is average. place can be loud, but thats part of the charm at this type of place.
Great Mexican At The Seaport. If you're in the mood for Mexican while perusing the shops at the Seaport stop by RED. It offers excellent Mexican food in a large, relaxing atmosphere. Choose to sit inside or out, enjoy a coffee and people watching after your scrumptous meal. Whatever you do, give it a try if you're in the neighborhood.
One of My Favorite Mexican Restaurants in NYC!. I have gone to Red many times in the last few years (as I live a few minutes away). It is a great restaurant. The frozen strawberry and mango margheritas are amazing and very strong....have two and you are feeling good. They have a fun ambiance with two large floors and a great outdoor area. It's a perfect restaurant to go out with a group of friends and have some great mexican and laughs on the seaport. The chicken and steak fajitahs are delicious, they come out on a sizzling platter. The food is excellent, the service is friendly and very quick, and the prices are very inexpensive. It can also be romantic if you get a table upstairs or outside.
really?. I'm surprised to hear about the bad service comments... I've been to Red many times as I live about 5 minutes away, and I've always found them to be surprisingly quick - once it took them less than 10 minutes to get me and my boyfriend our entrees, and the quality didn't suffer at all either. In gneral, prices are reasonable and food is very good. They have fun after-work happy hours as well if you're ever in the area!
Quicker if you served yourself!.
I went to Red recently as it had struck me as a nice spot to eat at South Street Seaport. I would highly recommend it for location and ambience but I cannot honestly remember the last time I had to wait that long for service at a restaurant. And even more worrying is that they weren't even that busy!
This was really disappointing as there is big potential for this to be a great South Street Seaport favorite with value for money food and good frozen cocktails. However unless you're willing to wait over 30 minutes to be offered a drink, not to mind an appetizer go elsewhere! I was seeing red by the end of the meal....
Good Food, Great Location. Red is ideal if you like TexMex and its nice weather. The food is good, but not great, with the exception of their taco salads (Steak especially). Think chain-restaurant TexMex, like Chevy's. But the best part is the location in South Street Seaport and the outdoor seating.
Quite Good.. Service is decent, but not great. Unlimited chips/salsa, consistent entrees. Margaritas are not so hot, but beer list and sangria more than makes up for it. Good for after work.
