Overview
A historic trading port that dates back to the 1600s, the "Street of Ships" is now home to more than 120 shops, restaurants, eateries and pushcarts filled with the gifts, tastes and styles of New York City. Quaint cobblestone streets and scenic views of the Brooklyn Bridge offer a welcome and peaceful respite from the grime of urban living. Best of all--it's free.
Features
Since its restoration in the late '60s, the South Street Seaport has gone through a period of intense growth. The last few decades of the 20th century saw the openings of the South Street Seaport Museum, the Pier 17 Pavilion, the Fulton Market and numerous high-end shops. But if you don't want to go shopping or pay a fee at the museum, it doesn't cost anything to go and just hang out with friends and family--there's always street performances or live music going on.

this place is great to go to for back to school shopping. It's an outdoor mall and they specialize in all sorts of thing such as clothing, dinning, and relaxing. This place has a great view of the city and you should visit them!

THIS IS JUST AN OVER-COMMERCIALIZED TOURIST TRAP. NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY ABOUT THESE ATYPICAL POSTCARD, T-SHIRT, NYC SOUVENEIR[THAT ARE STAMPED: MADE IN CHINA] SHOPS. THE BOATS WERE SAVED FROM THE SCRAPPER; NICE TO TAKE A LOOK AT.

This was a must see according to a friend, but I found it to be just another mall. The stores weren't anything different from what we have in Oregon and the food was nothing special. That's not to say that all the stores were nationwide and that was nice to see and I would recommend going to South Seaport, but not specifically for the food and shopping. The view was great as well.
