Good Thai in Financial District
by wtd2802 at Citysearch
Visited tonight for dinner, had the green curry chicken, it was excellent. Quite spicy, which I liked, but not "killer spicy". Actually, my service was quite good too, my waitress smiled and was prompt, and another waitress was kind enough to fill my water glass a couple of times when my waitress was busy, and she smiled too. The location is a little odd, down below street level and I almost missed it. Not glamorous outside, but once you get inside, it is roomy and comfortable (for NYC). There are several things on the menu I would like to try, and the value for the money is good. I'll definitely be back. Enjoy!
do NOT go here if you are Asian
by citygirl1980 at Citysearch
Everytime I have been here I have experienced absolutely HORRIBLE service. Granted, some of these reviews only solidify my claim that the service is poor, but I think it happens moreso b/c I am Asian. One time they sat me and my other Asian friend in the corner facing a wall while there were tons of other tables available. When asked to be moved, they did so but not without mumbling something to each other about it. After we were reseated, some other non-Asians came into the restaurant but were not offered our original corner seats.
On another occasion, we went back and this time were accompanied by a white co-worker and we received normal treatment and were seated in the middle of the restaurant.
Then again, thinking the first time was a fluke, we went back today and they sat us in a different corner this time. To top it off our waitress was SO rude. In the middle of our meal she snatched up the condiments that we were obviously using when there was an empty table next to us that had a set of condiments on it. Why would you take them off a table that had people eating?
After this last incident, I am absolutely DONE with benny's thai. The food is decent at best, but nothing to write home about. They're just lucky they are the only Thai place within a 5 block radius so people are forced to come here due to lack of selection.
- Pros: Fast service (only b/c they want you to get the EFF out)
- Cons: Horrible service
Very Good Thai Food, Not good Service
by Voyager421 at Citysearch
If you are just interested in the food, this is a very Good Thai place to eat. If you're looking for friendly service, forget it! Once you're in, they want you out right away when the food gets to your table. The waitresses has lack of personality and friendliness to serve customers. Their facial expression tells it all, it almost makes you not want to come back, however, the food is so freaking good, you put up with their annoying looks. I tried several different Thai places in down town and nothing comes close to this place food wise. However the other places has a better and friendlier atmosphere, the food is what set Bennies apart from the other. So you have to decide, Food or Service. Friendly Service, don't even think about coming here, Good Food? Definitely Bennies no doubt!
- Pros: Food
- Cons: Annoying waitresses
Worth a Visit

Though hidden beneath the corner of Fulton Street, this place is packed during the lunch hours - when I usually go. This, itself, should explain how popular Bennie's is. What really keeps me going back is the good food, quick service, and how inexpensive it is. If you just want tasty dishes (pad thai noodles, spicey rice dishes, etc.) and inexpensive food, you're in for a treat.
It's true that they rush you in and out, but that's because this place gets a lot customers! Good place to bring your friends, co-workers and family. Meals range between $7-13 usually. Lunch Specials are cheaper.
Overall, I like going here. For me, it's all about the food and low prices. I would recommend at least visiting Bennie's once!
- Pros: Good Food, Inexpensive, Fast Service
- Cons: Busy
Best place to eat in Financial district

These are the things i look for during a lunch near my office:
- great food (check)
- cheap (check)
- fast (check)
Don't worry about service, atmosphere, that stuff. You go there for some good homestyle Thai cooking. I can't stop ordering the Pad See Eiw everytime I go there, even though I promise myself each time I'll try something new. The curry dishes are great too.
It completes my lunchtime trifecta of: Burritoville, Subway, and Bennie's.
- Pros: tasty noodle dishes, great curry dishes, inexpensive
