Marrin's - Bad Experience

Marrins' was on preferred list at our new building. Making appointment went well and estimator visited our apartment to provide estimate and explain costs. Promised two trucks so as not to smush our stuff. Promised wouldn't go above quoted cost - period. Made no mention of having to pay some money day one (when they packed us up), and balance day two (when they actually moved us). When they actually started the job, only one truck showed up which they tried to jam everything into but couldn't. Told me I would have to pay if they used more boxes than estimated. Told me I would have to pay one third of balance first day meaning I would have to leave apartment to go to bank. Told me we would have to pay any parking tickets above the quoted rate after we agreed to that rate. All of these led to a ton of arguing, stress and frustration. We had to work with our old building and new building to allow for two separate trips since only one truck showed up and obviously move took much much longer than planned for. I could write for another 30 minutes including writing about how I had to race around to prevent one of their vans from being towed. I have never posted on Citysearch but was so aggravated by the experience felt the need to write. I don't know what type of training and oversite the Marrin's provide. In this situation it was severely lacking (we believe our estimator was new to the job and mis-estimated the size of the job and neglected to mention some things at our initial meeting). Our estimator, our moving crew, and the dispatcher all knew this move was going very poorly yet we never heard from the Marrin's management. I must point out our actual movers - Luis and his team were very good. I was so excited to work with Marrin's after reading all the glowing reviews but this turned out to be a very bad experience. An easy stress free move is difficult to achieve. You need a top notch company, an experienced well trained estimator, an excellent dispatcher and an excellent work crew. If any one of these areas is lacking the results can be quite unpleasant. Marrins' may be good in some or most of these areas, I have no idea, but one weak link can ruin the experience. Bottom line - bad, stressful, unpleasant move.

Stressless

After much experience with both domestic and international moves, this was one of the easiest and least stressful. The highly professional team was courteous, friendly and spent the time very efficiently. I would certainly recommend them.

So HAPPY with Marrins Moving!!

Moving is stressful, or at least it was for me until I met Marrins - this was my 3rd move with Marrins. I have recommended them to many friends and family (moved my mom and she is a real critic and loved the crew and service) As always the estimate was thorough, they were ontime, worked great with the building personnel, the office was great with the insurance certificates and the crew packed me, moved me and delivered my stuff to 2 differrent locations. Just read a review from another client about particle board furniture - was sorry to hear about their experience but I was told that the NY DOT will not even allow it to be covered because it is not made to move - told this by 2 moving companies.
