What Our Expert Scouts Say

A typically mediocre Upper East Side family feeding hole, Barking Dog has the great merit of catering to dogs, even to the extent of having doggy fountains outside.

amazing brunch. The brunch is amazing, great pancakes, omelets and fritatas (the fritatas are better than the omelets!)

The atmosphere is pretty fun, and theres always a wait for brunch but its not too bad.

One bad thing is that the waiter refused to give my friend a pancake on the side of an omelet order.... and then even the manager said we would have to get another full order of pancakes... I dont know why they cant charge for an extra pancake.

Rude and Unsanitary. My friends and I went on a typical busy Saturday for brunch and the hostess (who we think is the owner as well) was a loud mouthed rude b#tch! And to top it all off, if you've been there before, you know the restaurant has an open kitchen... we saw the aforementioned hostess reach her hand over and take food off of plates that were waiting to be served... this after kicking us out of the way so she can handle and store strollers that have been out on the street. Not only did she reach her hand in the food once, she did it twice as one of the people I was with saw it happen both times as well!

Receipt in food.... Oh Boy...I ate there last year with a couple friends and they ordered simple things. One friend ordered a burger with lettuce and tomatoes and there was a credit card slip mixed in the salad part. He was about to put the salad on the burger and thought at first it was wilted lettuce but it was the yellow part of a receipt. It was mind boggling. Not returning to say the least.

Keep Away. I live right up the block on 95th St and I have to stay this might be the worst restaurant in the area. First of all it is CASH ONLY and the only way it says it is in little print on the last page on the menu. They are understaffed! We got our food with no fork and knife and waited for 10 minutes until I had to get up and walk to the Kitchen and grab it on my own! Please do your self a favor and keep away! There are plenty of restaurants down the Street like Fetch and Tequila Jacks which are much better!

Disgusting. I used to live next store and frequent this location quite often, but after this morning I will never go again. First, we sat in a booth and noticed that the entire wall was covered with little black specs (fruit flies and nats to be exact). We requested to be moved to the bar area, and the hostess simply sat someone else in our place. Once we sat at the bar the waiter disappeared and we received no service with the exception of receiving our food. When we received our food, it was cold and was missing items that we had to call out and have someone follow up with. As we ate, we watched the person behind the counter count money, clean the floor, touch everthing in sight, and then handle fruit with his bare hands. I almost threw up!!

I will never go to this filthy place again. The food is lousy, the service is awful, and our overall experience was disgusting. We shared our feelings with the manager who staired at us as if I have two heads. A couple waiting in line was turned off and left, so I suppose we're almost even. Hopefully, this review will convince you to keep on walking as there are many better places on the UES.

worst service in a long time. I recently moved to the neighborhood and am a major foodie, therefor I am looking for a few places to be a regular at. I went to the barking dog on a sunday with my friend for lunch. There was no wait, but there were deffinetly a good number of people in there. The food was ok, if a little overpriced (but it is the UES so that's to be expected). What was absolutely unforgivable though was the service. Our order was taken and brought to us in a timely manner but after that it was all downhill. My friend and I were chatting and the waitress took our drinks away, each with a little bit left in them. Then she came back to clear our water. As if this wasn't bad enough she then pulled the placemat out from under my friend's arms, literally making her fall onto the table, with no apology from the server. There were tables open, we had ordered a decent amount of food, there was no reason to rush us out. Upon leaving I mentioned our server's behavior to the manager. He called her over and her response was "oh, I was just trying to clear." Now I've eaten in a lot of restaurants and my friend use to be a server...I believe you're supposed to wait until the customers leave to clear the table. Don't bother with this mediocre joint.

Used to be a favorite, but.... My husband and I used to frequent the Barking Dog. We even had our own favorite dish and Wait staff person! However, each time we go the portions get smaller and smaller, but the prices stay the same! Their whole staff seemed to turn over after January 1st, so no more of that "neighborhood" feeling we used to get when we walked in there. Seems to me that there's been an overhaul for the worse. Now we go to Fetch across the street where the food is decent and they take credit cards.

Awesome pancakes, but that's it. Best pancakes on the upper east side. Unfortunately the coffee is the worst and they don't have a children's menu. The eggs and potato dishes are average and the service is OK. If you have children there are many places in the area that are child friendly.

Bad service. This place has very slow service. Breakfast food is good if you are lucky to get it hot. And as for the Chicken-pot pie. It is a swamp of chicken and veggies with a roll on the side.
