Editorial Review for Luca Restaurant – by Lori Fradkin
In Short
Luca Marcato started culinary school in Milan at 16, and he's been cooking Italian food ever since. After working for the celebrated Tuscan restaurateur Pino Luongo, Marcato opened his own candlelit eatery and took control of the kitchen. Now customers nibble breadsticks in a small yellow-walled room and order mushroom risotto, lamb shank with polenta, and tiramisu. A Milan poster serves as a reminder of home, as does the prominent display of wine bottles.

I went to Luca Restaurant last night with my boyfriend and had the greatest meal. The menu has a great variety of Italian favorites. We started out with the fried calamari which was amazing, tender and crispy with a nice tasty sauce and also shared the avacado salad which was delicious. For our entrees we ordered the duck parpaelle and branzino, both equally delicious. Our waiter was friendly, attentive and made our evening that much nicer. We'll definitely be back very soon!
Pros: Great Italian Food and Service

I recently lunched at Luca’s with several friends. What a treat! There are hundreds of Italian restaurants in Manhattan to choose from and, in my opinion, this is one of the best. Why? Because of a magical combination of regional Italian food that is both familiar and exotic at the same time, combined with a home-hearth-like ambience. The service is first-rate and attentive without being intrusive, and then there’s the food … did I tell you about the food? We went a little crazy for lunch but we wanted to sample a range of Luca’s delicacies. For appetizers we had fried calamari, a baby kale salad w/ balsamic reduction and garlic chips and tomato and mozzarella sandwiches. For main courses we had pappardelle w/duck ragu, gnocchi w/ tomatoes, spinach and ricotta ravioli w/ butter and sage sauce and calamari shaped pasta w/calamari artichokes in a garlic olive oil sauce. And of course dessert was mandatory as most of the desserts are made fresh in-house every day. We had traditional Italian desserts of tiramisu, chocolate mousse and panna cotta, but these desserts, and the food in general, were “benchmark” quality. The prices are reasonable for this level food. Bravo Luca!!
Pros: superb food
Cons: none really
