2011-and gone is another gay bar. Granted every seedy antiquity of NYC cannot hang around forever, but The Toolbox goes one further with it's "new and improved" look. It's a reminder that gay bars really don't exist anymore, but are merely tourist attractions to what was.

Some of the same die-hard-drinking crowd still hangs out at the "neighborhood bar" but I've begun to think they are blissfully unaware that they really aren't in a gay bar anymore. This place can't decide what it is. Is it still the place with the downstairs-for-play? Is it a trendy new hangout for loud young queens and their gaggle of needy SCREAMING hags? Is it still the Cheers of the gay UES? Can it make up its mind? Maybe there's something for everyone here, but at $7 a beer, new bartenders with attitude (Really? At the Toolbox?), and feeling as though to actually BE gay in this place means you are the entertainment for the tourists, it's not for me.

Solid. I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal. And the Tool Box is where it's at! A truly enlightening experience. I laughed, I cried, it was better than Cats.

Interesting, Smooth and Relaxing with an Edge. The size is just right; opportunity for fun and intimacy, a "must see" while you're in town; it's just starting to be open for the 5 - 8 crowd making it a great place for a little down-time after a hectic day in the city

Ebonymenluver. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Small bar with hot cruisy men. Bartender is the best in town!!!!
