Love it!. I recently purchased my first road bike from Larry's and could not have had a more positive experience. Not only were the prices the best in the area, but the customer service was far superior than that at other bike shops I had visited. The shop and its staff exude a sense of warmth and community that immediately make their customers feel comfortable. John spent several hours helping me find the perfect bike. For each bike that I test rode, he made sure that the seat post was the exact right height and that I understood the gear shifting before I took it out. I finally decided on a Women's-Specific Specialized Dolce, which he customized with handlebars and a saddle to fit my size. He even added in free slim shims to reduce the reach on the break levers and gave me a lesson on how to use my new clipless pedals. And the bike came with a free, thorough bike-fitting and lifetime tune-ups. John's knowledge, patience, no-pressure attitude, and attention to detail are second to none. During the time I spent at the shop, it became apparent that the entire staff provided the same level of quality, personal attention to children and first-time riders as it did to seasoned cyclists.

Best bicycle service in New York City. These guys are the best!

In July 2008, my wife and I decided to replace our 2 'clunkers' with new hybrid city bikes. We went to Larry and Jeff and from the getgo had the best experience. We told them what we wanted and what the price range we wanted to be. They gave us all the time and allowed us to test ride 8 bikes over a 2 day period until we selected the bikes we wanted and never tried to upsell us to a more expensive bike.

In the end we upped our ourselves (from $500 to $1500 for a pair of Giant FCR's) based on our experience in test riding the different makes and models. Again no sales pressure - just great advice.

We have been back multiple times to buy all the little bits and pieces we need for the bikes and everytime it feels like we are back with friends who know what they are doing.

Larry and Jeff have us as return customers for as long as we continue to cycle. We have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone who wants to buy or even rent a bike just for the day.

Larry and Jeff's...more like Moe, Larry & Curly.... What a horrible experience. The girl at the front desk was very snooty. She copped an attitude from the moment my girlfriend and I walked into the shop. I'm not sure what her problem was. She didnt explain the terms of the service well which included charging my credit card $300 as a holding fee. She actually charged the card...Then, after she assigned us two bikes, the incompetent attendant couldnt get his act together to find the exact bikes she charged us for. The place was in disaray. I wouldnt go back to rent bikes there again. If you're looking for knowledgeable and friendly service attendants DO NOT visit Larry & Jeff's. Oh, did i mention, with in riding for 5 minutes, the chain popped on my girlfriends bike. Way to service the bikes Larry/Jeff...

Great stock, helpful staff. My fiancee and I went here to get new bikes after years of not riding. I had actually gotten my first bike there when I was 10, so it was a bit surreal. Some of their staff are really quite helpful: our sales rep really took time to get us bikes that were right for us, even though our price range was on the very low end of what they sell! Their service people are all very competant when we've needed to modify the bikes.

The prices are definitely on the high side, and can be a bit scary: seeing thousand dollar price tags can put a new biker off, but they also have low priced stock as well. A lot of the accessories can be purchased online for less, but there are also a lot of things that you can only purchase through a certified bike store. The personal service of getting sized for a bike by a person who can actually see you and how you fit on a bike is definitely worth a premium.

I'd recommend walking in with some level of education, at least in terms of what sort of bike you'd like. Where to get that education, I'm not sure, but it helps to be able to say "I want a road bike" versus "I want a mountain bike," or a hybrid, or whatever.

They also have bike rentals, for very low rates, if you're a beginner and want to see if you can relearn how to ride a bike! Your body remembers... it's just like riding a bike! :)
