Avoid at all cost! Save your time - try craigslist.. This residence is located in the upper east side where any form of good food/nightlife/cheap groceries/etc is non-existent. The rooms themselves are tiny for the price and you have to share kitchen and bathrooms on each floor. The bathrooms are poorly designed and constantly flood. The shared kitchen doesn't provide ANY cutlery, crockery, utensils, pots or pans, kettle - all that is provided is a cooktop, microwave and toaster, fridge and freezer. Useless for any international student or out-of-state student, which, it would seem, most people are.

The biggest gripe I have with the place though, is the security guards. 90% of the security guards are rude, petulant, petty, unwilling to help, unfriendly, have massive attitude and are on power trips which stands in stark contrast to the many general workers there who are incredibly helpful and friendly.

I stayed for 2 months and it is only because I paid upfront that i didn't leave.

I will never stay there again. Save yourself the hassle - sublet from craigslist.

Modest but comfy accommodations at reasonable rates.. The Scene
Most New Yorkers know this complex as the sight of frequent (if not overpriced) literary readings. Much like its Christian counterpart, this Jewish organization offers a variety of services including cheap, clean accommodations. Most guests are long-term residents. Kitchen and laundry facilities are available on each floor.

The Details
The fully furnished rooms accommodate up to 400 men and women, many of whom are students. The rooms are slightly spartan, yet comfortable and have climate control. All rooms have shared bathrooms, weekly maid service and 24-hour security. Some rooms have great views. Internet access in the Buttenweisser Library and a TV in the lounge help guests stay entertained during down time. Stays here include discounts at a fitness center (including a 25-yard swimming pool) and frequent YMHA concerts.
