In Short – Everything is larger than life at this 50,000-square-foot store. Expect to meet storybook characters and watch performances by magicians, storytellers and professional dancers who romp around on the giant dance-on piano. Other highlights include a section of rare antique toys, a nursery of newborn baby dolls up for adoption, a karaoke corner and an old-fashioned ice cream parlor.

Pricing outrageous ... but it's FAO Schwartz
by DGNYC
I took my niece and nephew to FAO Schwartz for the first time. Although it was expensive, the experience was great. They loved the enormous stuffed animals and the giant piano! Even though we only walked out with a small teddy bear and a small lion, the time we spent there was great. Could not have picked a better afternoon with my two favorite people.
Luxury Old And New
by Cara Lawton
As a kid I’ve always had my reservations about FAO Schwarz, the upscale store where only celebrities and particular affluent customers can take their children. This year I decided I wanted however to pick something up for my niece’s first birthday. Upon entering I quickly realized that this unofficial 5th Avenue landmark has gone through several renovations and has since come a long way from the classic luxury allure of toys and collectors items which has made it so famous. You won’t find many products by big discounters here anymore. Now their inventory primarily consists of collections of hard-to-find and oh-so-expensive items such as scooters, adult karaoke machines and, mini-luxury car models of Hummers and Jaguars. I remember getting a beautiful silver toy remote control Corvette (definitely one of the best Christmas’s). But one does one get for a little one year girl? The staff here was very helpful in resolving that. One associate walked with me through the entire store until we settled upon this beautiful doll. As I walked out I noticed that one thing that FAO Schwarz didn’t change about their store. The giant piano keys which have been featured in so many movies and Christmas television specials thankfully still remains.
A tab pricy, but worth it.

Quality ain't cheap and I wanted to get my grandmother something excellent for New Years and she just adores stuffed teddy bears. She's been collecting them since she was my age. She's also really picky so i'm glad I came to the right place because the toys here are just wonderfully made. I also got my little brother a giant stuffed dinosaur while I was there. He sleeps with it every night. :]
Paint Your Own Pottery in FAO Schwarz!
by Lici B
Just discovered this very cool Paint your own Pottery studio inside FAO Schwarz! I knew FAO Schwarz hosted many customized toy experiences, like Make your own Muppet or Make your own Barbie... but I was pleasantly surprised! It's the most affordable experience with the most versatility. Can't drink coffee out of a Barbie! Love FAO Schwarz and love this studio. I'm hoping to book my sister's birthday party in this space.
- Pros: Family oriented, fun, hands-on, do-it-yourself
- Cons: Week to wait
Make Pottery Studio in FAO Schwarz
by WalkinsNyc
I just spent a fun afternoon at FAO Schwarz. One of the highlights of our trip was stopping by the Make Paint Pottery Studio right next to the Big Piano. My and my little girl both painted. It was a fun memory we will share forever. Also a highlight was the fact that we could get both pieces shipped home to LA and not have to worry about carrying them around the rest of the trip. Highly recommend this and can't wait to see the finished pottery.
- Pros: Fun experience in a toy store
- Cons: Non
