Editorial Review for Trattoria Romana – by Paul Adams
The Scene
The bright, cheery dining rooms are pungent with smoke from the wood-fired pizza oven, lively with conversation, and crowded with local families and the occasional gourmet pilgrim. Several doting waiters provide excellent service, even as they rush back and forth seemingly without a plan. The large windows look out on Hylan Boulevard's passing scene.
The Food
Despite the name, the home-style cuisine looks beyond Rome for inspiration. The enormous menu, bolstered by dozens of specials, includes pastas, pizzas, meat and fish, soups, salads, risotti, even a "low-cal" section. The pizzas are remarkable, with thin, flavorful crusts--one topped with sharp broccoli rabe and sweet sausage is superb, though any choice works well. Pastas, like the toothsome homemade pappardelle with mushrooms, and the linguine smothered in calamari, mussels, shrimp, and more, are top-notch too, and served in grandly unfinishable portions. Desserts et alia are marvelous as well.

Been to Trattora many times. When the chief is there the food is very good but when non chiefs are in the kitchen run. One day I was given cold pasta covered with canned clams as a main pasta dish. I would not even eat it and the ower was nowhere to be found to complain to.
Pros: Ihe owner
Cons: His poor cook staff

Excellent, authentic, and friendly. I have nothing bad to say about this place. It is superb. I recommend you go and get one of the specials (they change every night) for a REAL experience. Too many people go and order fake garbage like Penne Vodka. If you go to Trattoria, be adventurous. Yes their Penne Vodka is good, but so is the supermarket imposter if you spruce it up with extra garlic and oil. C'mon people! Be Brave, do it! As for the food, there is no comparing this food to Manhattan food. Manhattan has a few very good places, but most of the restaurants there have become "Italian-American" rather than authentic. They are also more expensive. At this place, you get better quality, and all at a fair price. Highly recommended
Pros: food, wine, price
Cons: crowded
