What Our Expert Scouts Say

This rock-solid restaurant is probably your best bet in Staten Island for non-red sauce Italian food. The flavors are on point and the pastas diverse and beautifully executed. Really a find, especially for the neighborhood.

The BEST Italian food on Staten Island HANDS DOWN!!. I dont own the place, i dont know the owner, heck i dont even know the name of one waiter that works there but I do know good food, and this is it. I have been coming here since i was 18 years old and the first time I ate at Trattoria I said this is the best italian food on staten island and it still stands true to this very day. I have had almost everyhting on the menu including their specials. They serve the Sunday sauce in a frying pan!!! Their pizzas are delish!! Their calamari is always so fresh and fried JUST RIGHT every single time!

LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. We had our sons 1st birthday party and it was GREAT! I know what you're thinking, 1st birthday at an Italian restaurant, but Trattoria Romana was excellent. Josephine helped me plan the menu and all the details. I had about 30 people and 5 children. The food was delicious and sooooo plentiful. My guest were able to take home leftovers. The staff was so accommodating, I brought my own high chair and stroller and they were so helpful moving tables around. Even though the restaurant was open to other patrons, it was not an issue at all, for us. There was even another party in the other room, which didn't slow down service or effect the quality of food. The only issue was that there seemed to be a line to the bathroom the whole time, but as I mentioned there were 2 parties, and regular restaurant customers. I would highly recommend for any party and even for regular dinner. Prior to this party we were already frequent customers. Also want to mention that the prices are very reasonable for the quality of food.

Won't go back.. I've been at Trattoria Romana just once. And I'm definitely not going back.

I was very excited to go cause I've been told it was one of the best Italian restaurants in Staten Island. So disappointing.

The service was very good. Can't say a word about it.

I ordered Fettuccine Paglia e Fieno. Way too much heavy cream and really not enough salted. I wondered if there was any salt at all. It was badly cooked like any other restaurant that don't know how to cook pasta. there was a lot of food, big quantity and little quality.

My husband ordered a special of the day, Gnocchi with sausage in a red sauce. The only way it could be nice was if the sausage was grounded into the sauce. But as I feared there were whole sausage over a red sauce with no flavour. The Gnocchi were ok. Definitely not home made. The sausage wasn't fresh. That sausage was old.

I highly appreciated the quality of the extravirgin olive oil on the table and the fresh pugliese bread. These were the only two ITALIAN things in the restaurant.

Another Favorite!. Love this place. We go at least once a week! My favorite is the Cristino appetizer (mushrooms, proscuitto, mozzarella over crispy bread smothered in a butter/white wine sauce). I usually order either a filet mignon or the veal marsala. Really, everything is great here!

Can't imagine why there is a line here. I have tried Trattoria 4 times. I couldn't believe that the raves were wrong. I figured it was me. Well, I am convinced that this place is terrible. A friend of mine who like just about any food, unlike myself, went with us here. She never complains about food but sent her overpriced "special" back as inedible.. And it was inedible. forget that the tables are on top of each other. Who would care if it was delicious? And it's not cause they're cheap. Go to Angelina's for a fabulous top notch Italian meal. Worth every penny. I will say that the pizza was delicious as an appetizer. That's it.. stay away.

Some Good some Bad. Been to Trattora many times. When the chief is there the food is very good but when non chiefs are in the kitchen run.

One day I was given cold pasta covered with canned clams as a main pasta dish. I would not even eat it and the ower was nowhere to be found to complain to.

The best there is, the best there was, the best there will ever be. Excellent, authentic, and friendly. I have nothing bad to say about this place. It is superb. I recommend you go and get one of the specials (they change every night) for a REAL experience. Too many people go and order fake garbage like Penne Vodka. If you go to Trattoria, be adventurous. Yes their Penne Vodka is good, but so is the supermarket imposter if you spruce it up with extra garlic and oil. C'mon people! Be Brave, do it!

As for the food, there is no comparing this food to Manhattan food. Manhattan has a few very good places, but most of the restaurants there have become "Italian-American" rather than authentic. They are also more expensive. At this place, you get better quality, and all at a fair price. Highly recommended

Outrageous food. My friend has been raving about this place for some time. I've been there twice and left each time feeling like a fat slob (in a good way). The food is outrageous, best chicken francese I've ever had. The fried calamari melts in your mouth, the desserts are also delicious. Not recommended for dieters! I can't stop eating everything on my plate and on the plates of my company. My only con is the service is a little shaky, it seems that after you order your first drink (in my case beer) it takes a while to get another. But I'd sacrafice that for the quality of the food. The prices are extremely fair, and the atmosphere is OK.

I'M FAT !!!

Won't go back!. Went to dinner on a Friday night and the place was packed and hot. We were seated at a table right outside the mens room and when asked for a quieter table. . . we were told to go to the library if we wanted something quiet. All the time there were other tables available in the other room! We asked again and were finally moved to the other room where it was much quieter. I ordered pasta in a pomodoro sauce and it tasted like it came out of a can . . . took one taste and I was done. They took it off of the bill so that was a good thing. My boyfriend has been there before and has had good meals . . so we recommend that you go on an off night and don't order the red sauce! I have no desire to go back there when there are so many other great places on the island to eat!

If Grandma Only Cooked This Well. If my grandmother cooked this well, I would wouldn't have such a fear of the kitchen. But Tuesday night's cooking demonstrations is begining to change that. I shared this event with my daughter-in-law, had great fun in this friendly atmosphere and on many levels it strengthens a most important allience.
