“Sadly, with the opening of the new stadium down the block and across 161st St, a lot of fans are now heading to the huge Dugout across the street from the new stadium.”
Make the Walk. Stan's is where real Yankee fans dwell before and after games. It is obviously not across the street from the stadium anymore but you should make the walk to and from this authentic Yankee watering hole. Going anywhere else is like going to Starbucks instead of your local mom-and-pop coffee shop.
The Tradition Before Any Yankee Game. Baseball is all about history and tradition. You go to Fenway, you have to get a beer at The Cask N Flagon. In Chicago, it's the Cubby Bear or Murphy's Bleachers before a Cub game...and before Yankee games, it's STAN's...located right across the street (from the old stadium site) on River Ave, under the El. Sadly, with the opening of the new stadium down the block and across 161st St, a lot of fans are now heading to the huge Dugout across the street from the new stadium. And with a Hard Rock Cafe in the new stadium, less people are heading to STAN's now before a game. If you're really young and love really loud music before the game, there's the L-shaped Billy's Bar down the block from STAN's with a more humane and mellow entrance on 161st St east of River Ave. There's also the Yankee Tavern around the corner...but if you want the real thing...with loads of Yankee tradition, you gotta make the pilgrimage and pay homage to STAN's across from the old stadium site. This place has seen it all!!
I'm a Dodger fan and I still loved this place!. I had a few hours between the stadium tour and batting practice. I'm from LA and don't know my way around, then I stumble upon Stan's. What better place to pass the time than in a bar, right? I was the first customer when I walked in, but I wasn't alone for too long. The place got packed with a bunch of Yankee fans ready to start the party early. Great vibe, the bartenders were cool, and there were a few hotties in there too. So yeah, not a bad place to pass some time before the game. I plan on going back when the new stadium opens, so I will mos def return to Stan's again!
Editorial Review. The quintessential Bronx sports bar since the '70s, this seasonal mainstay is still inundated with Yankees fans yelling at the screen and pouring pitchers of beer.
Amazing Experience. This place is just unbeleivable for anyone, not just Yankee fans.....No matter what they put in or around the new Yankee Stadium, nothing will ever compare to the time you can have at this amazing institution.....Loud, fun "dive" bar, makes you feel the way you should when at a baseball game!...The music is great, the bartenders kick a**, the fans are intense, the beer is ice cold!......Dont go to a game without enjoying the "Stans experience"!!! Trust me, you wont regret it!....
For a great time before a game, you HAVE to go to Stan's. If you are a Yankees fan, this is the IT place to be! Stan's gets crowded so make sure you get there early if you want a table!
A MUST BEFORE AND AFTER A YANKEE GAME!! GREAT FOOD, COLD BEER AND YANKEE FANS!!!!. The only place to stop before and after the game. I have brought fans from California, Texas, Pennsylvania and Upstate New York to Stan's. Their comment " this is what Yankee fans are all about". It is a true flavor of the ultimate fan. I have been at Stan's in a suit and in cut offs and a tee and have always been treated like a king. Great food (but get there early to get a table), ice cold beer and the staff is wonderful! Yes it's packed, but the service is fast and the crowd is... well a fun loving group! Stop by before and after the game!
Stan's... the institution. You can keep your tailgates anywhere else in the country, I'll take Stan's. There's nothing like the energy surrounding the venerable institution in the hours before a game starts. Get there early, especially before a day game, because it gets crowded. But it's worth enduring the crowds to knock back a few before the game, in the best sports bar anywhere.
