Bronx >New Planet Tokyo Japanese
“The people are super nice and the food is always very good!”
“Fresh fish, imaginative rolls and friendly service.”
What a Shame!.
I live in the neighborhood where Planet Tokyo is located and for the longest time (since they opened really -we were one of their first customers the day they opened) I considered them to be the best sushi north of 72nd street. But one day all that changed when my wife and I ordered dessert after having a delicious meal there. I ordered the ice cream wrapped in a rice (I think) dough; I forgot what my wife ordered but it came sprinkled with something I can't remember now. Nestled among the sprinkled dessert was a small cockroach. Needless to say we returned both desserts and ordered the check. When we pointed out the issue to one of the waitresses (Jesse's wife in fact) she nonchalantly and we a slight smirk in her face told us that she was sorry and that the place had been fumigated the day before. She even said that because of the fumigation they had seen some small insects roaming around, as if it was something acceptable and not to be worried about. I could not believe I was hearing that, but everything turned to worse for us when we saw that she had actually charged us for the dessert that had the bug in it.
I decided to pay the check and right there, without saying anything, left and swore never to come back. It has been over a year now and I don't regret the decision, even though this being Riverdale, there are not too many choices when It comes to good restaurants.
I probably should have said something, but I think it was Friday night and I was extremely tired and decided it was not worthy to say anything. I am sure had I said something to Jesse he would have taken it off the check, or even offer us something else.
I can't believe in this day and age that small restaurants like these do not understand how expensive and EASY it is to lose a repeat customer.
River roll sushi. My children took me here for my birthday and I keep coming back the food is great the sushi is so fresh and I not scared to try something new every time very friendly service
Japanese gem right here in Riverdale. We used Citysearch to pick this place and to find it while visiting nearby Lehman College. We were not disappointed. Fresh fish, imaginative rolls and friendly service. Definitely would go back again.
Great Place. My wife and I live in Inwood and discovered this place while taking a drive around Riverdale a few years ago. We now go there very often and have never had a bad experience. The people are super nice and the food is always very good! They always have incredibly fresh tasting fish. When friends visit and are in the mood for sushi, we forego the trip downtown and head up to Planet Tokyo instead. It's so nice to have a realiable sushi restaurant so close to my Upstate Manhattan home.
Creative sushi. The sushi here is creative, wonderful and the taste incredible. Its so good you just can't stop ordering. We eat here several times a week. They have a great selection of unusual combinations.Priced very well. Daily specials in case you need some inspiration.
