Video Experts? Perhaps. Repair Specialists? Certainly NOT!.
Where do I start?
Well, my Sony LCD TV was not working. After trouble-shooting on the phone with Sony, it was clear to them that there was a power issue with the TV and it would require professional service. I knew of two people who had their televisions serviced at VEI. One of them was thrilled with their service (this was about 5 years ago), the other got nowhere with VEI, and after about 3 months of "service", picked up their TV and ended up just throwing it away (this was about 4 years ago, and I dismissed this experience because they were dealing with a no-name Costco television).
I dropped my TV off on Wednesday, and was told that I would receive a call on Thursday, or at the latest Friday Morning, to discuss the repair and be given an Estimate. Their telephones apparently don't make out-going calls. When I finally called them on Friday afternoon to see if there was any diagnosis, I was asked to call back in an hour. When I did, there was no answer. No one answered for the rest of the day. So, since they are closed on Saturday and Sunday, I had to wait until Monday to try again. I received the old, "We haven't found anything yet. I'll have someone call you this afternoon". No one called. Same thing on Tuesday. Same thing on Wednesday. When I called on Thursday and received the same line, I asked that the TV be assembled and ready for me to pick up that afternoon. My request was greeted with a gruff "You just dropped the TV off! You need to give me time!" Apparently a week wasn't long enough.
The impression that I got about their "repair" division, is that the repairs are a "second-class" service. The fact that I could not receive any information until "the crew gets back to the office" was a sign that all other work was priority, and the repairs were dealt with whenever there were a few minutes to kill.
In closing, I took my TV to STANTON, and within an hour and a half, I received a call from STANTON saying that the power board was blown and needed to be replaced. They got the okay from me to order the part, and I'll be able to pick it up the same day that the part arrives at their shop. And STANTON’s prices were reasonable. Save yourself a week of time and frustration and go directly to someone else before you even consider VEI.
