Something just happened to me today that everyone in our area should know about. I had an appointment with Mr. K's to have my windows cleaned for $353.00 cash (with a 25% off coupon) so I went to the bank yesterday and had my envelope ready for them. Well, shortly after they arrived, Mr. K himself (Ken Karlewicz), the owner, declared that he was going to charge me another $88.00, almost 25% more! BECAUSE OF HURRICANE SANDY, my windows needed to be scraped! I used Mr. K's in the past but Mr. K was never there and the crew did an adequate, if not great, job. Yes, the windows are dirty; I live in the woods but I spent most of the morning moving plants etc. away from the windows and Thanksgiving is in two days so I (very unhappily) agreed to pay the extra $88.00. While they were starting to work my sister called and Mr. Kay must have heard me complain about the 25% price increase and before I knew it the embarrassed and apologetic crew told me that Mr. K was packing up and wouldn't do the job. When I questioned him, he said that he was getting "a bad vibe." Either he is off his meds or sensed that I might file a price gouging complaint and is crazy like a fox. Since he didn't take my money I can't prosecute him for the criminal he tried to be. I already reported him to the BBB and have been trying to reach the Rockland Consumer Affairs bureau (busy line). So, I am stuck with a house in disarray and dirty windows for Thanksgiving. If you want to get your windows cleaned know that if you book with Mr. K's the price you are quoted is only a starting point. What an unethical man! And by the way, I am a sixty-one year old widow. I wonder how many others he has done this to.
