This is Greek and Mediterranean food on a grand scale. Premium ingredients and attention to fresh seafood also equals premium prices. The wine list includes many greek bottles with nothing less than $37 which is a bit much for table wine. The food here is delightfully prepared and presented. The chef and owner is dazzling with fish. True to the basics of Greek cuisine, everything is heavy on the olive oil, lemon, and oregano. This simple combination combined with fire equals a great way to cook the fine ingredients. I enjoyed the shrimp and feta cheese and tomato sauce appetizer. The main entree of grilled lamb chops were perfectly griled to medium. Deserts were good also. Service was impeccable

Writing as a Manhattanite, a regular traveler to Greece whose sampled much of its cuisine: Authentic, home-cooked, variety of Cretan/Greek specialties. Worth the regular Zip Car or N/W train trip from Manhattan. Truly a delightful experience-this is not your standard Greek restaurant. The daily specials are so good, you'll only be so lucky to ever order from the menu. Lamb fricassee with fresh almonds, grilled fish, cheese kalsounia drizzled with Cretan honey, it only gets better. The service is family oriented- not only can you taste their joy of cooking, you feel like you are invited into a family's kitchen. The cooks come out regularly, the wait staff are attentive. Care is made for a cozy atmosphere with trees and white lights surrounding the tables (tricking you in thinking that is is the Parthenon peeking out from between. On quieter nights, the Aegean). S'agapo, S'agapo. Thanks for bringing home Greece.

Every time somebody asks me for the best Greek in Astoria, I steer them away from Uncle George's and send them here instead. I haven't tried every restaurant in Astoria (yet!) but I have yet to find one that manages to be as delicate as S'Agapo with its offerings--Greek food isn't known for delicacy, to be sure, but this place somehow gets at it. Unlike Elias Corner, S'Agapo dresses its fish in more than just lemon and olive oil; the appetizers range from sea to inland, and the cooks know how to handle both with aplomb. And it's intimate, too--the staff can be reserved, but with food like this, who cares?
