What People Are Saying About Gibney's Tavern

In Short – This classic Irish bar is by no means a dive--from the moment you set foot through the swinging saloon doors, the beautiful dark wood bar and rich red walls convey a refined tone. There's a fireplace and intimate tables toward the back, and plenty of seating at the bar and along the walls. The friendly, gregarious bartenders pour drinks with a liberal hand--from wines, ports and whiskeys to 10 beers on tap. The Internet jukebox has a full selection of music, but swing by on Sundays to hear live Irish tunes.
Editor's Tips
- Know Before You Go:
- The old regulars of this bar know it as Gibney's--now the name has changed, but everything else remains the same.
- Happy Hour:
- Every day until 7pm, all drinks are $1 off.
- When to Go:
- The live Irish bands take the stage at 8pm on Sundays.
- The Extras:
- In addition to the working fireplace, the bar features another rarity--a working antique phonebooth.

Gibney's is my go-to, corner bar. I can hit it up when I'm tired and wearing sweats, or when I want a cheap, strong martini before running into the city. Every time I go there I laugh at the bartenders, and they (somehow) always give me a nice buzz. Always a good time had by all at Gibney's.
- Pros: Strong Drinks, Cheap Drinks, Friendly crowd
- Cons: Smoking after 11, No food
Charming Bartenders, Inexpensive Drinks
by skibby1010
Gibney's has been a favorite watering hole of mine for years. Everyone is friendly and the bartenders are always gracious. Occasionally, you'll walk in and think you're in a club on Long Island (by the looks of the clientele and the music), but give it a couple of days and it'll be back to the same ol' Gib's! Oh, and there is some guy who likes to take his clothes off, but should really bundle up.
- Pros: Inexpensive, Excellent Service, Good People Watching
- Cons: , Meat Heads
So many positives can't be wrong

I can only add that I adore Noel and Mike. It's really these fine bartenders that makes Gibneys what it is -- a fantastic spot to sit and enjoy a beverage, meet with friends or party the night away. You're missing out if you don't stop by Gibneys any day of the week for a great time (but it's more crowded on Fridays).
- Pros: Mike and Noel, friendly crowd, great drinks

My Second Home in Astoria

I used to think of Gibney's as a fallback bar - the place to go in case I couldn't think of/didn't want to go anywhere else. Now, I've accepted the fact that Gibney's is easily the best bar in Astoria, and I don't bother trying to think of anywhere else to go! I love the bartenders - Noel - you are the god of beer! Everyone should come here - if they don't, more beer for us!
- Pros: friendly, lots of seating, great atmosphere
