Editorial Review for Magnetic Field--CLOSED – by Kara Zuaro
The Scene
Just east of the BQE, this Atlantic Avenue outpost caters to a crowd from the western fringes of Cobble Hill and Brooklyn Heights. A retro Western theme handily attracts these frontier folk: A larger-than-life cowboy, bearing resemblance to Warhol's gun-slinging Elvis, is etched on a glass panel at the entrance and inside, neighborhood sharpshooters fire a computerized rifle at the screen of a deer-hunting video game.
The Draw
Should specialties such as the French 75, a refreshing gin and champagne concoction, or the rum-enhanced Dead Elvis shoot you down, diner-style booths, tables and a long bar allow for ample seating. The jukebox boasts an eclectic collection of 45s, ranging from Nina Simone to the Dickies, and specialized DJs alternate on evenings devoted to themes like '70s no-wave or hip-hop and funk.

This is a great bar to catch various styles of music being spun. You never know what to expect in the music scene which keeps each visit a bit fresh and alive. The bar offers the standard bottles with nothing to really make them stand out, but the staff is funky and fun.
Pros: dj's, good vibe
