Editorial Review for Melody Lanes – by Nekeisha Alexis-Manners
The Deal
Approximately 40 minutes from midtown Manhattan, Melody offers 26 lanes of bowling heaven. While the decor's utilitarian at best, patrons don't seem to mind--the low admission and rental prices make bowling there more than worthwhile. If you're a hardcore expert looking for a place to showcase your bowling talent, look no further: Melody Lanes offers a host of tournaments and bowling leagues (including the Junior Summer League and Mixed Doubles League). There's certain to be an option that meets your needs and skill level.
Time to Spare?
Swing by the cozy sports bar to relax, grab a cold one and watch one (or all) of the five televisions. If you're hungry, there's the snack bar at the back of the alley, which offers everything from snack food like nachos and peanuts to serious eats like hamburgers and chicken. Birthday parties and fundraisers are a big hit as well, and though the party room at the back is generally used for staff meetings, for an extra charge, the public can have access for special events.
Special Note
Several organizations for the mentally disabled bring members to participate in tournaments and leagues specifically for that community.

Once we got through the hassle of getting in, we had such a great time at Melody lanes - a casual, upbeat family atmosphere and affordable. But be prepared to stand in some lines if you come on a Saturday night. Each employee had a lot more than their fair share of work - therefore there was a wait for everything. I'd called earlier in the week and asked if i should need a reservation for a Saturday night and been told no, but next time I will definitely call ahead, because there was a 1/2 hour + wait. Then there was standing in line for shoes. And a burger and fries took over ninety minutes to be ready. We played tag team standing in line for soda refills between turns bowling. Then there is standing in line again to return shoes. Believe it or not, there are a lot of people who want to bowl in Brooklyn! The neon light thing was going on in the half of the alley away form us - and looked REALLY cool. Next time! I don't know how it is on other nights, but if I return on a Saturday I'll 1) make a reservation 2)eat before arriving 3)be familiar with the options of paying by time or per game before getting up to the counter to pay.
Pros: great atmosphere, great fun, even good shoes!
Cons: overwhelmed staff anf waiyt times for everything
