The Scene
Clearly owned and managed by movie buffs, this
video-rental gem of the Slope offers low prices, tons of titles and plenty of room to roam. Staff have worked there for years, know the stock and recognize all the regular renters. A subway side location is brilliant for after-work pop-ins, and the 24-hour drop box reduces the chance of late fees.
The Goods
It's true the older titles are predominantly VHS. But if you value a hometown experience over high tech DVDs, you'll appreciate the extra movie sections like manager recommended, animae, AFI's Top 100 Comedies, Sci Fi Top 100 and groupings by directors. Foreign titles abound--Turkey, Scandanavia and the Caribbean
even have their own sections. Bonuses are pre-viewed movies under $10 and counter copies of Video Movie Guide.
