Disappointing
by August C at Citysearch
We visited the restaurant on 10/09/09, had not been there for the last 5 months. The service was fine. We were very disappointed the quality of the food was poor compared with what we experienced in the past.
The khores fesenjan was more like a soup than a stew.
Very supprised that a Persian restaurant did not had Sabsi/Panir.
The Barg Kabab was not as tender as it should be.
I was not able to get an Egg Yolk with my Kabab Sultani.
In general a very disappointing visit.
- Pros: Good Service
- Cons: Food mediocre
As Good As It Gets

Well It's very hard to find good Persian places in New York, There are only 4 that I know of, but Persian Tea Room is the best outside of Manhattan. I love their food and prices are decent. When I head to my parents house in Old Westbury from the city, I usually stop ad pick up food for the family (saving my mom from cooking).. I have been there on Saturday nights with their entertainment, and I have had nothing but good experiences.
Horrible Service, Sketchy Pricing, but Decent Food

I was really in the mood for some authentic Persian food, in an authentic Persian atmosphere. Boy was I headed to the wrong place!!! The waiter was very slow and unfriendly. I had to flag him down for everything and that was after I would patiently wait for him to take notice and attend to our obviously ?in need of service? table. When it came time to order dinner my girlfriend thought that we should share something, since we weren't that hungry. The waiter said that if we shared a dinner he would still have to charge us for an entire extra dinner. I thought...hmmm that's interesting...never heard that before but ok...I?ll bite the bullet and go along with what he's says in order to not be a pain. The food came and it was ok, so I thought ok not so bad, but I must mention that I am Persian, and I come from a Persian household, so I really know my authentic cuisine. This was not at all up to par. The meat was dry, the rice very plain, and the grilled tomato a little cold. For dessert we ordered the Persian ice cream. It pretty much tasted like a candle, but maybe I just don?t have buds for it. Also while deciding on the dessert I was able to look at the menu again and I saw that it read that for any dinner shared between two people an additional $4 would be added. The waiter told us $15 dollars would be added. He blatantly lied to us to make us spend more. What a cheat!!! After all was said and done the check finally came and it was very odd. Apparently they had charged us an initial $10 for the live music that began to play an hour after we got there and despite the fact that we were all the way in the back, not able to hear it very well, and not informed at the beginning of dinner. Finally, they included 15% gratuity, when it read on the menu that gratuity is included for parties of 6 or more and we were only 2. As a Persian and an experienced waiter, I suggest that you steer clear of this place at all costs.
- Pros: Appetizers were not bad, Persian Tea was tasty
- Cons: Service, Details about Pricing, Inauthentic (meant for tourists and people who don't know anything about food), Over priced
Best Persian in Queens
by 747tech at Citysearch
By far, the best Persian food you will ever eat. The restaurant is located in Little Neck, Queens. We have been there several times and cannot get tired of it.
The food is delicious and the staff is very friendly. The restaurant itself is nice and romantic. Their appetizers, main courses and desserts are superb. I particularly liked the Hummus, the Joujeh (Cornish Hen) Kabobs and the Lamb Kabobs. Most of the main courses are accompanied by saffron rice which is out of this world. They have a dish which is not on the menu called "Ta-Deek". It is the rice that is usually found stuck to the bottom of a pan. They scrape this rice and add some minced meat with sauce - very delicious.
By the way, if you are not busy on Saturday nights around 9pm, then you should make reservations and check out their entertainment. There is belly dancing and live Persian music. We are not Persian and did not understand the lyrics, but still had so much fun. It is good for families and couples.
- Pros: The food and entertainment.
- Cons: The warm pita bread becomes hard as a rock when it cools, making it hard to chew.
