This Queens course was opened in 1926, and was originally designed by Douglas S. Tucker. Since then, Douglaston has been redesigned many times over the years. But that doesn't make it any easier to play here.

The location of this course can't be beat. Highway access, close to NYC, ample parking, etc. However, this is NOT a real golf course. Its a glorified EXECUTIVE course that has nice elevation changes through out, GREAT old trees that protect and punish. My front lawn is nicer than the fairways, and the practice greens at most courses are nicer than the greens here. The "pro" shop is a joke, the system they run is a joke, the staff can't be bothered, there are NO marshalls to keep up the pace of play. The Tee boxes are rockhard and the yardage markers are NOT accurate- that is if you can even find them. To be fair, there are some REALLY fantastic views of the city and the surrounding area does seem nice/safe (which is a change from some other NYC munis). For practice, this place is nice as they don't monitor your play or pace. There is some water and a fair amount of sand. The bunkers are not pretty, but the sand is good and fair, not to mention their is plenty of it- maybe because the season is about to start. I won't ever come here to play or entertain, but I will come back to practice. The prices can't be beat.

I've been playing at Douglaston Golf Course for years. Under the new management, the course had turned around for the better... a "180 degrees" better. New bunkers, GREEN GREEN fairways, and greatly kept greens makes Douglaston a MUST PLAY Golf course in NYC. Highly recommended~!
